"LIST PRICE" is the suggested retail price provided to us by our suppliers. We make no representation that a substantial number of these products have been sold or offered for sale at the list price. Actual retail prices in your area may be substantially different. Because we sell our merchandise over the internet on a national basis, it is not possible to know if our merchandise is sold at list price in any particular location or at any particular time. "YOU SAVE" reflects the difference between our price and the supplier provided list price shown on our sites. Because the list price may be different than the actual retail prices in your area, you may not actually realize a savings of this amount and may want to make an exact comparison for yourself by checking the prices of other internet or local retailers prior to making a purchase.

Hmm, seems I found their loophole. It cuts the disclaimer off at "Because the list price may be different than the actual retails prices in your area, you may..."

Wouldn't be surprised it whoever has ordered this gets another bill for the whole amount. The $99 is most likely a pre-order hold.
OK, as a first post I will try to explain this........
What they are saying is that their price is compared to the price the manufacturer would like it to sell at. "Our price vs. MSRP". Fortunately the MSRP is often much higher that the price you will find at local stores or other online retailers. That is why you might not get the savings they advertise, you might be able to find it at another online store for $10 more and therefore be only saving that $10. The price they advertise is the actual price you pay, I have bought other items from them that had a similar savings and have never had a reserving fee such as you are thinking of.
Good to know. As I said before, it's all in the interpretation. Seeing as I was a tad skeptical with the deal, I read it a bit differently. Glad to see someone who has buying experience with buy.com posting. Welcome to the board. 8)

Now the question of the day, does anyone know why these players are going so cheap? Seriously, newer incoming models aside, it's a helluva deal. Yes, I'm still skeptical...it's my nature.

Also, does anyone here own a Zune that can give us a review?

Perhaps it's Microsoft's way of marketing their players. By selling near cost with low profits, makes it very affordable and extremely competitive (maybe even cheaper) with the popular ipods or any other players. So it'll sorta generate interest and awareness amongst like-minded groups (like this thread!), people would start to get aware of it. Free publicity in a way.

i'll see of it as a marketing strategy and nothing else.

I'm think maybe the BROWN version of the Zune isn't popular?

Don't know about you guys, but a brown player just doesn't look all that nice as brown reminds me of something else..........

Can you imagine a brown HiFi system/component? What about a brown DVD player or LCD TV? Hum........

I wonder if Zune is indeed popular... it's the first time I read a thread about this player here.

I still feel that this USA wonders are mostly marketing than anything else... I agree with somebody else here... I would like to read a review from some of ours members... a sincere one.

Just had a look on the ABI forum to see what is said about this player.

Seems you don't get a user EQ, you can't delete tracks on the go or access the hard disk directly..:-( So some pretty basic stuff is missing really.

Album art support is really big though apparently, pity Zune only supports WMV formats for videos though..

Still I suppose its not bad for $99 as a second player.

try again Bill.....

Seems that this Zune follow normal standards of USA made players.

from:
Microsoft Zune Review

this:
Sound Quality

The Zune’s sound quality is good and will suffice for the majority of users, but if sound quality is a very important feature, you may want to look elsewhere. The very high end and the very low end are somewhat blurry, but something you can only tell with a really nice set of headphones and some critical listening. Sound quality is average at moderate listening levels, but tends to fall flat and louder volumes.

Nothing else to say, the same product as USA. Korean and Japanese MP4

Hi Binh,

Buy.com does not do delivery to Australia.
That is why if there is some one that can help it would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Jakes

Exactly! DRM/musical restrictions aside, the Zunes are just butt-ugly. I'm thinking either primary colors or snappy, bright ones are going to catch the eye of most potential buyers of these players. I can't imagine what Microsoft's rationale was for choosing BROWN as one of the Zune's primary colors. I'm guessing that they were trying to be "different" than the competition, but seriously...
