So, a couple of questions for the lucky ATJ2135 users. How is your player at sorting ID3 tags? Mine seems to have problems, especially with 'artists'. I haven't looked into what the actual tags look like yet (no time) but it seems to scramble the listings quite a bit where my other players don't have a problem.

Also, does everyone else's player allow access to sub-menus from the main menu navigation? I can only access submenus from withing the now playing screen.

Does anyone have firmware?? I think I found some files online but they couldn't be downloaded without log in.

Hello all!

I'm about to buy an ATJ2135 based player this week (Foston FS-74, the one pictured on the video in the first post). These players are strangely cheap here in Brazil, and people doesn't seem to know its power, since its price is about the same as other shitty players.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about firmware modification on this chip, since I want to get started on the subject. Is there already a way to extract the firmware from the player, or to flash another firmware back? Did anyone tried to download/upload a firmware with success? Can anyone point me to where I can learn more about firmware modification?

There is no extractor of this breed of Actions chipset yet... anyway in a Brazilian page they have the backup for that firmware (13.00.10.1012) here mp4playerss you can check if this firmware work with the software provided together with the Foston.

I've try installing it in my player and wasn't accepted but I haven't tried with other tool (MP4 product tool) that probably will do the trick. I do have to work hard with my player installing its software becasue it works with a huge firmware. I've upgrade my player from 13.00.10.1012 to 13.00.10.1015 which weight 25 Mb. It will be soon here in this pages this version of firmware.

No tool for skinning available yet. :(

From back to front... I do have a firmware v13.00.10.1015 that I will post soon here and MP4users. Pay attention to my explanations on how scaring was to install the new firmware... I was with hourglass screen until I open the player and short-circuit it.

About sub-menus... I understand that sub-menus are those with black background half screen next to the right side. In main menu there is no such sub-menus... only the selection of options that are detailed in second level. From second level on there is always access to sub-menus.
For instance. in main menu is option "MUSIC" if MENU is pressed here it will go to second level... keeping pressed MENU appears Volume Control.
Second level of MUSIC is All Music, Artists, Album, Genre, My Music List, Dir List, Record List, My Music Tag List, Favorite Song Level.
If here is pressed MENU go into each option on third level. If MENU keep pressed appears a sub-menu which is the same for all options: black screen showing the following: Repeat, EQ, Replay Times, Replay Gap, Volume
Third Level of Dir List, which seems is what you want to know. In this level are shown all music files and getting sub-menu there is option Remove which allow you to delete files from within the player.

About ID3 ordering... it works fine but are displayed in a weird way as it is all artist ok... but within artist appears all songs, instead of the albums... then is more a playlist than a catalogue of music. Song are ordered properly within artist.

well i just got my sample of the Ainol V900 a few days back, its pretty sweet, i am unbelievable impressed at what Action has done - especially compared to their old stuff.

It is different from other similar players, but the video playback is great. Anyone tried AMVB format? i am guessing it's some improved AMV format that is comparable to RMVB.

I've already ordered more and added it to my store, 4GB - $88.50 and 2GB - $68.50

Got myself a Foston FS-74, the player mentioned in the first post. It's a great player, this new actions chip is really great. Specially comparing to the previous ones, they are awful. I'll try to post some pics and videos later.

I noticed my player doesn't have the "Games & Tools", like the menu pictured here:

All other menus are exactly the same. Is there a way to enable this menu? Since the ATJ2135 is capable of running NES games, I believe it's just some firmware "flag" disabling it (so they can put the feature in more expensive players, I think).

Any help?

has it been enabled through thee settings menu as menu items can simply be turned on or off in the player itself

I'm not sure it can play Nes games. I know it says so but I tried putting a .nes game on mine and it didn't take. Anyone have any luck playing rom games on theirs?

I've done the same... installed NES games in NES folder but the player doesn't seems to notice it... so no NES playing... anyway is not what I want :)

Seems it can play upto 30fps for avi files, pretty cool

It plays video AVI xvid - mp2 / mp3 at 30 fps perfectly.

No traces of out-of-synch

Hey DaremoS, how are you encoding your videos?

I'm trying to convert videos in VirtualDub, using XVID codec (via ffdshow), 320x240, with no luck. I'm using 500kbps bitrate, tried to change fps (25, 29.97, 30), and also tried several audio configurations (stereo, mono, 22050, 44100, 64-96 Kbps, even no audio).

Nothing seems to work, it always says that the video format is not supported. But the video sample it came with is XVID, 500 kbps, 320x240, just the same settings I used... I must be doing something wrong, but what?

All the parameters you said are ok. I think that Virtualdub is adding some undesirable info to your player. Maybe xvid is not compatible.. which is not strange... I haven't tried to use it anyway, I think is too complex for a very simple task.

I suggest you to use a more simple converter to start with, sort of ViDrop from here, AVIConverter that always work, I prefer Xilisoft stuff, but aren't free.

a few points you missed on the review

data exchange: copy from SD to player and vice versa

level : music rating, when in music play screen press "M" quick and see the stars and rate the song, then when you view the "level" screen you can select songs based on your rating

"tag" in this player is not related to ID3 tag but it means to add a "bookmark" to a song, movie so when in movie or music screens and you go to "music tag list" your saved tag/bookmark will be there, selecting this start the song/movie in the place you tagged it - this is great for movies, audio books podcasts etc as you can save many tags/bookmarks for later use

yeah i knew there were a few things i got wrong there, when i was playing around with the tag function, it kept showing the ID3 info for some reason, thats why i assumed it meant that.

i guess thats pretty cool that you can rate the songs on the player.

BTW how well does the player handle sorting of music by album, genre and artist, does it lag when you try to see music sorted by artist, album or genre?

Also you can record in either wav or mp3 format. I liked the way you emphasized 'GB'; that was the best part.

i have found the song sort to be pretty quick.

what the player seems to do is create a list, you can see this on the player when you connect to the PC, If you look in the "playlists" folder you will see a file (plus many others) ???, this is the music database, It seems to create physical lists as opposed to some form of dynamic database,
so when you view any of the categories it is subsequently very fast a showing them, even with 2GB full of songs.
the player has a similar function to the meizu when you add files in that it does an "update list" operation when unplugging from the computer.

another note is that the player will not catalog any music stored on the SD card but you can add items on the card to playlists if you want to. - and also copy items from card to player (music copied over is not automatically added to catalog until the next time you connect it to a computer, but can be seen in file navi and played)

Also the player does not update the catalog when you delete any songs and there is no manual updated function in the player itself.

playlits are very good on this player but is preset to 5 only. there is no way to empty a playlist all in one go from the player only song by song, but, when connected to pc you can go to the "playlist" folder and delete the corresponding text file to the list you want to empty (i.e. file MSCLST0 is playlist 1 etc.)

i have found sorting of the actual file into genre, artist album to be working correctly with regard to the reading of ID3 tags, at least i found no problems anyway)

this is a good player and yours is a hell of a lot cheaper, my 2GB one cost $99 - so i feel a little sick right now as you have the 4GB for alot less :(

don't hesitate to ask razzer, i could witter on for hours :) but i have children to wake and get ready for school

ps - the only thing that really bugs me about this player is its build - it is too light, would definitely have preferred a metal case of some sort

I was taking a look at the Ainol V900 and what i noticed is that the players with the new Actions chipset are basically knock-offs of the Meizu M6.

Player looks similar, interface is almost the same except for the hybrid touch slide/push button controls on the M6 vs regular buttons on the Actions, menus and functions are almost identical.

A few extras on the Actions would be the SD card support and FLV playback. Coupled with the cheap price, those players will sell quite well. But they won't be able to beat the battery life on the M6, at least not with fake Nokia batteries, that is. :P

Well not quite what I expected, but there seems to be a device on the market using the new Actions 2137, don't get too excited though just have a look and you'll see what I mean, it does show what the chip is capable of though :roll:
