NEW actions chip (Actions ATJ2135) - player availability

Have you all read the following post yet?

post about the new actions chip

well go and have a look

and a you tube of an ATJ2135 player in action (DaremoS)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ei5ppIBSIVw

Daremos accidentally discovered a new player using the new chip from Actions Semiconductor and was blown away with it

this post is simply to start gathering a list and possible stores of players using this chip

why all the fuss, well if you read the link above then you will see why but in brief:
1.support FLV
2.support playlists
3.multiple video xvid support @ <=30fps
4.OGG, APE and FLAC
5.image browser with rotate and zoom
6.music catalogue, view by artist, genre, album etc
7.copy data from sd card to player
8.NES (??)
9.SRS WOW sound
10 pop up easy access mnus from all screens

and more - just read on to find out more detail

this is a new chip and players are thin on the ground and also i think the firmwares will change with new support and updates

anyway i will start with a couple of links to players using the new chips

this is the player that started it all, found by DaremoS in local market, not yet seen on line, has name of "groven"

http://daremos.vtrbandaancha.net/Groven_close_up.jpg

Ainol v900 on sale at i-yotta.com

http://203.174.34.46/~yottaenter/Pho...V900_main1.jpg

and

unbranded on sale at chinavision.com (bought by member riolist)

http://img1.chinavasion.com/images/t...mb_164x162.jpg

so - get hunting people and see what you can find, ones on sale at a store would be best but what ever you can find
BTW a good way to recognize if a player has this new chip is by the interface - use the image below as a reference

Re: NEW actions chip (Actions ATJ2135) - player availability

This Foston FS-74 seems to use the same chip but my upgrade program refuse to use its firmware for not be the same kind as mine :?:
This didn't happen when I try to mount Ainol V800 firmware which I would be able to load in my player... but I didn't
In the list it must be added Ainol V800 and probably Ainol V950 which is a player of 2.8" screen

thanks DaremoS :)
wonder if they have firmware on their site - will look, could use it on the ainol

unis is identical bar the center nav buttons being round and ainols are square - hope theirs is easier to use then the ainol one ;)

vid review od v950 - says it is a rock chip

i think ainol upcoming u90 is also this new chip - will look at this

keep on searching and places to buy them also :) :)

Specifications of screen are impressive:

2.8" - 320x240 - 16 millions colours

This is KH Aiwa... I suppose a Chinese filial of Japanese Aiwa... it's very nice so see others beauty in their assortment as it is AW-A680 which is Teclast C260 which sport the Swiss chip RK2608A.
Rockchip is usually mentioned in China as Swiss chip.

Here is a company that have many ATJ-2135: 4 models of 2.4" and 3 of 2.8"

2.4" models:

Typical OEM company they show a place where to put the "LOGO" of your brand :)

makd511 28th Oct 2007 2:08 pm

Daremos

i saw these people and was impressed by the styles

but they all look like "mock up" designs rather than actual pictures of actual players i.e. they are made in photoshop

what do you think?

very nice designs though, really like the last really like the last of the 2.8 models - looks very snazzy

makd511 28th Oct 2007 4:29 pm

good find DaremoS

i have read that the 2137 will be linux bases OS, but not this one, if it is then great

i think that the chips and firmware we have are just the very beginning and hopefully most of what has been proposed by actions will eventually arrive

OTG is partly there isnt it, with the file transfer from card to player, thought it may be good for the camera to empty my card but the player will not even show the images, seems the images are too large for it to handle, so much for that idea

cant wait till development steps up on this chip, i think it has massive potential, but needs refining

alex2pb 28th Oct 2007 6:15 pm

@makd511, DaremoS,
Thanks for showing us the future :D.

If I ever buy another MP4 player, i'll make sure to buy a 2137 or later based one. The specs are extremely nice! Really, I thought Actions will not make big deal and they will be surpassed by the competition but it seems that we haven't seen the last from them. Good job Actions! You just (re)won a customer :).

This last one seems to be one of the products of Orbit manufacturer shown some messages above (the one of Photoshop players) it's exactly the one that seems to be more real

DaremoS 3rd Nov 2007 7:26 am

OTG (On The Go feature)

Among the specifications of ATJ-2135 published by Actions,... it is said that the player support OTG, no tested yet, anyway I've found the ability to be plugged in USB charging while the player is in functions. This is useful if the player is plugged to a amplifier to release the sound through external speakers.

Well my GROVEN player has capability of charge and play at the same time...

When the player is plugged to USB its needed simply to press for some second ESC key, after this the player will do the task "playlist organizing" and then it will show the menu. A small orange icon labeled USB will appear next to battery icon.

:D :D :D

PS.: I learned how to put it in this status because is the way I put in such status my Onda VX858 and my Teclast C260... all with the same capability!!!!!

Okard... Your English is enough good :)... I'm learning to speak too.. after a year living in USA I've to re-learn

Concerning the firmware... I will receive soon backup for 13.00.10.1012 and a new version which is ...1015.

I am waiting for the firmware as backup and I intend with it in my hand to start changing it with the one of Ainol players, which is the most known manufacturer that probably will start delivering new versions. For the moment I don't want to take the risk of put an Ainol V800 that I have.

As I said in Spanish, as soon I get the backups and new version, I'll publish here for the all the members to use them.

okard 23rd Nov 2007 4:38 am

Realy is a great Mp4 and it need a better skin
thanks a lot , un abrazo from chile,

Does anyone have one these players with the 'file navi' feature (such as the Ainol V900)? I love my player (from Chinavasion) but there doesn't seem to be a way to delete files on the player like in a true file browser. You can delete files which are playing, but any files that aren't playable can't be deleted (because the delete option only appears in the play screen context menu). So, for example, I haven't found a way to delete bookmarks since they aren't 'playable'. If i'm listening to a book, each time I stop I naturally set a new bookmark, but all the previous bookmarks have to stay there even though there's no longer a need for them. Can the 'file navi' feature be used to delete any file?

makd511 23rd Nov 2007 10:23 pm

Riolist

as you know i have the v900, i got it as i hoped for frequent updates from Ainol as this is such a new chip but nothing has come as yet and, as you are discovering, there are a few things that need addressing

first of all is "file navi" enabled in your settings as you can turn menu items on and off, i am sure you may have seen this already but thought i would check

well file navi on this player just allows you to view and select files to use, it will not allow you to delete / remove from here at all, the sub menu that appears when on any file only allows you to adjust volume - this is a little odd.

it would be better if file navi would allow you to remove/delete files and also integrate the "copy" function here to, rather than have 2copy" as a seperate menu item.

the only way i can remove any files is to enter the function i want, say music and whilst browsing the list in there the sub mane will allow me to remove the current highlighted file. The file does not have to be "playing" to remove it.

BTW my player/firmware use the word "remove" instead of delete.

Another annoying thing is playlists. The only way to empty a playlist is to browse the list, not in file navi, and remove items one at a time - this can take a while if it is a long playlist.
there is no option to "empty playlist".

i have found one way to do this but you have to connect player to PC and look in the folder "PLAYLIST". Whenever you add files to one of the predefined playlists in the player a fle is created in here and named MSCLST.0, MSCLST.1 etc.

MSCLST.0 = playlist1 etc

to empty the playlist completely just delete the appropriate MSCLST file and the nest time you turn on the player that list will be empty.

one moare playlist bug, i can add whole albums to a playlist form "Album " view and will add all songs in that album to the list, but when connect it to PC and disconnect it it empties the bloody list completely

There's no option for 'file navi' on mine. While being able to turn menu items on and off is impressive, I don't quite understand the purpose for it. What would the consequences be if, for example, you turned off the 'settings' menu?

Quote:

How do you activate a sub-menu while you're browsing a list of files? there doesn't seem to be a way to do that on mine. The button that opens the sub-menu while the file is playing just activates the file while in browsing mode.

Quote:

Same here.

I haven't used playlists so I can't comment on that.

So the one difference between your player and mine (besides the 'file navi' option, which doesn't seem to do much) is that you seem to be able to enter a sub-menu while browsing files. I don't seem to have that option.

Have you ever taken your player apart? It would be interesting to see where the button that activates the sub-menu during file navigation is connected. Maybe I could rig one up and get access to that feature!

Thanks for your help. It's fun exploring these sophisticated players. I can't wait to see what's next.

on the V900 there is a button in the center of the four nav buttons. It is marked simply "M".
To gain access to the sub menus i have to hold this button down for about 3 seconds, release the button and the menu pops up.

one of the main features of this UI is its pop up side menus and would be very surprised if you can not access them in some way.

i would imagine that the button you use to "select" items may be the one to use as this is the way mine is configured

give it a go any way and let us know, and what are the two buttons on top of your player for - volume?

Riolist 24th Nov 2007 3:29 am

Re: NEW actions chip (Actions ATJ2135) - player availability

There's a total of 5 pushbuttons and 1 on-off switch on my player.

On the top the two switches are:

1. On the left is the on-off slide switch.
2. On the right is the volume pushbutton. This raises a volume screen in the now playing screen that enables the two lower front panel buttons to adjust the volume during playback. In other screens this button does nothing.

On the front panel there are 4 pushbuttons:

1. On the upper left is the main menu button, labeled 'esc' (strange). This allows you to drill down into the various primary menus and at the level when individual files or options are visible, to select them, and also to make selections in the sub-menus. A long press of this button returns to the main menu screen (my music, my video, etc)

2. On the upper right is the play/pause button. Besides activating play/pause during playback this button allows you to step back up through the main menu structure while in screens other than playback (the opposite of the drilling down of the 'esc' button). A long press will turn on/off the player in any screen.

3. On the lower left is the left directional button. in playback it is the rewind/previous track button and steps from bottom to top in the menus. It also adjusts the volume down in the now playing screen after the volume button on top has activated the volume screen.

4. On the the lower right is the right directional button. It does the same as the left button but in the opposite directions.

So that's it. As you can see, there's no process in these button functions to activate a sub-menu during ordinary menu navigation. They could have assigned that function to the volume button since it doesn't do anything in screens other than now playing, but they didn't.

I'm a little unclear about the capability of your player. Can you delete bookmarks using a sub-menu when you're in the Tag list screens?

DaremoS 24th Nov 2007 6:23 am

Riolist... I don't recall what firmware version you have, mine is 13.00.10.1012 and makd511 is.. .1015. Your version seems to be similar to mine. This means that some enhancement have been made between both version, ie. "file navi" that I don't have.

I am waiting for a couple firmwares promised by the seller confirmed to be in the provider premises. I will publish them here... and I will inform you about how the upgrade procedure goes which is for me a doubt.

The problem with cheaper chips is that are installed in player made by cheap enterprises that don't bring support, so we are relaying on Ainol which seems to be most known brand of ATJ2135 makers.

Yesterday I was interchanging e-mails with an executive of MEElectronics, a very gentle person but he wasn't capable of obtain a firmware for their product. MEElectronics

Anyway... I'm still happy with this player... I was comparing it in sound with my new iAudio D2 and surprisingly the sound with SRS activated was as good as D2.

Hi DaremoS,
My firmware is 10.12.16.0707 it doesn't seem to be a consistent number across players of different brands. It's interesting that the seller of the RockMEE can't get the firmware for the player he sells! Unfortunately, Chinavasion is very much against firmware upgrades and states on their website that they will never make firmware available for the players they sell.

So your player is like mine; no sub-menus within the regular menu navigation?

Of course i'm very happy with mine as well, it has so many more features than not only other Chinese players but mainstream players as well. When do you think we'll see a name brand player that can move files between main memory and the memory card? I'd say probably never. The rough spots are fairly minor. I would rate the sound qualtiy on mine as 'superior' as well. I own some of the best sounding players there are (Rio, Samsung, and yes my Rockboxed e280 (VERY good sound)) and this player can stand right next to them in sound quality.

Oh one more thought. It looks like the 'file navi' feature is not much of an addition to the firmware. It looks more like an unfinished implemenation that was left off or ours because it doesn't really do anything useful. What's really better about makd511's player is the ability to enter sub-menus from within the standard menu navigation, which means you can delete files without 'playing' them, but that feature doesn't depend on 'file navi' at all, as I understood makd511's description.

Rio

sorry for not replying earlier but been away for the weekend

yes, the "file navi" is useless, lets you view and select files only, when ever i enter the sub menu here all i get is "volume"

the buttons on the V900 are as follows
1. top button - play/pause, on/off
2. bottom button - return button, navigate backwards through the menu system.
3.four nav buttons - used for general navigation up and down lists, for volume and fast forward/backward etc.
4 center button ,arked "M", used for selecting current highlighted item and long press brings up sub menu no matter what screen you are in.

if i enter my "music" function i come to a main list of All music, Artist etc pressing the "M" button opens the next list, so clicking M once on artist open the list of available artists.

from here if i hold M button for 3 seconds my sub menu will appear with the following options:
Repeat
EQ
Replay Times
Replay Gap
Remove
Add to my Playlist
Volume
if i select "Remove" from here it will remove all the songs listed under that artist at once.

taglist entries for both music and video can be deleted form the sub menu in the same way as i said above

so in short, no matter where i am in the player i can get to sub menu by pressing M for a few seconds, sometimes there is nothing but "volume" listed

I see, so your player actually has seven buttons while mine has five not including the sliding on-off switch. When I get time i'll open mine up and see if there are any unused pads that might allow for an extra button or two, though I doubt it.

Hopefully more people will come forward with these kinds of details

I don't know why there isn't more excitement about this product, it really represents a whole new level in Chinese players. I doubt i'm going to buy another ordinary Rockchip player after seeing this. Hopefully there's even better things around the corner.

Gosh... I did write a long post answering yours... now I see it was lost in some moment that MyMPxPlayer server stop working  I'll try to repeat here what I was saying.

My menu player have 10 screens with graphics (that I don't really like) one screen for each function... It don't have function "file navi". 10 functions are: Music, Photos, Video, Record, FM, E-book, Games, Tools, Data Exchange and Settings. This is 1st level. If I keep MENU pressed in this level apperas the bar of volume.

Selecting an option appears a new menu or list of related options. the usual blue screen which is normal for this chip. If your keep pressed MENU in this level appears what I've called sub_menus, the black list of options on the right. This is 2nd level. From here on if its keep pressed MENU will appear the sub-menu with related options.

In three functions Music, Photos and Video there is an option called "dir list", sort of dedicated browser, which has option "remove" in sub-menu when pointing some file, so it's possible to delete files from within the player. All the files of music, photos or video.

The graphics of the functions looks more like cartoons than other type of graphics, are very colourful. To complete the idea of this graphics when the player is switched off, appears a animation of a seated dog, cartoon dog and a couple of crossed bones :D :D ... good for a child player.
