You need something longer than normal 2.5mm plug. I have personally found multimeter test leads to be close to ideal. Something like http://news.thomasnet.com/images/large/025/25206.jpg except longer. If you have something with a cone-like head and it's not too small, it should work fine. Head of the button is small though so hitting it with a needle might be rather frustrating experience. Anyway, I couldn't get the webcam to work when I tried it. Driver apparently crashed windows when launching capturing software. Also tried a-data speedy 2gb sd with this and it works fine. SDHC card are probably not supported though. Also it seems that these access sd using usb 1.1 so it's rather slow. BattleToads japan and usa versions hang when entering level 3. eu version doesn't but runs 1'st and 2'nd levels at reduced speed. In third level, objects are flying above ground. Haven't gotten past level 3 yet. Ps. if I remember correctly(it's been ~10 years), there should be a "teleport" in one of the walls that will get you to next level. It might actually be that thing on 2'nd picture at http://www.retrojunk.com/details_articles/1199/ . |

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General
I've write this guide to help on recovering , I think it may help:
http://www.mympxplayer.org/dead-pmp-...de-vt9087.html |
This thread sure has evolved a lot since last time i came here. I might pick up one of those players just for kicks if i can find them around.
Heh, that'd make me an "MPx-a-holics Anonymous" member indeed. :P |
I created a wiki (based on the GamekingII one) so we can put on there all the information we find:
http://mp4.itram.es/wiki The Sunplus section can be found here: http://mp4.itram.es/wiki/spmp305x/ Everyone can edit, so add whatever information you find.. Beerzerk, do you give me permission to copy your tutorial on the wiki? (giving you credit, of course). It's better written than the one I made (and I think you based yours on mine, at least the VDK part :D) |

------------------------------------------- English (poor one): Hi! I have this PMP: http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/...vio-gratis-_JM but it's a DCTechnology one whit a Sunplus SPMP3050A HL171 processor... the thing is that I can't make it run as a webcam, even tough I've pressed the buttons combination they say around. I've also read that there's a hidden button in the out video line... is it real??? where is it? How do I press it? I also wanna make a Firmware upgrade because I can't see the "date" item... Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General
After examining the firmware of my gameking II clones I find the GB and SNES emulators ( SPMP_G1_12M.bin, SPMP_N1.bin, SPMP_N1_12M.bin, SPMP_25MN1.bin ),but gameboy and SNES game ROMS are not recognised when copied to GAME directory.Any ideas?

Then again, I cannot find any references to these files in any other file in AIMG(PMP_DX_sku9504_blue_background.rar) . Maybe it checks every .bin file in AIMG root. Finding such a piece of code in 3050ABin0.bin(in hopes of enabling this feature in other fws) is pretty hopeless. |
Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General
Thank you.
In my firmware several files can be deletet without affecting the toy. Some big .jpg files are not in use,and a unused skin .bmp file with chinese/korean font ( ??34h.bmp ) gave read errors when downloading the A tree as separate files to computer with FRM Pro. I have tried to burn pacman.nes into GAME directory on drive A without success. Are structure: drive A: program files/resources drive B: swap drive C: hidden with defaultFw.bin drive D: flash drive drive E: SD card ?? or where does defaultFv.bin go?.There seems to be a 2 mb size limit for defaultFv.bin in FRM Pro. |
Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General
Hi, I have the same player as the first picture of this thread, or at least that is how it look. I already try plug in the usb pressing all buttons and in all combinations of 2 buttons, I also open the case and look for a secret button, but there is nothing inside. If the player is off, when I plug the cable it only turn on, but it doesn't connect to the usb interfase, I have to plug it when it is in the main menu to the PC to see the device. Another thing I looked is, nor in the system setup option, nor in the tools option there is a option to see anything about the firmware version (I saw some screenshot around the web that shows some option inside one of this options). So, anyone have some idea to get and/or upgrade the firmware of this player? (Oh, I already try to conect the cable when it is in DV or Camera mode).
Another thing, misteriously, a .sav file apeared in the game folder, i don't know how this happend (i don't have that .sav in my PC) nor how use it. Anyone knows how this could happen and how to use this .sav file? Well that's all ^^ |
Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General
This works for me ( gameking clone ):
With power off and pressing Y connect USB to computer - sound from computer and message from windows XP :unknown USB device, asking for driver. Uncompress this driver kindly uploaded to Rapidshare by dbg4780 and install it. http://rapidshare.com/files/90955156...river.zip.html The ISP driver contain a camera and a webcam driver, install both. Now you should be able to access the firmware with FMPro for backup. I myself have been able to install other firmwares, but not getting them to work. The .sav file are settings from one of the nes games. |
Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General
Hello, I've managed to extract my firmware, but I'm having problems flashing it back (others firmware, or even the original one). I set the working directory to the one containing the aimg, bimg and defaultfw, then i set the firmware image to use to defaultfw in that directory. And finally with the options All Programs, Disk Img Mode, and Read Verify options, y hit ISP.
This is the log: 1 devices Detected ! [Dev NO.Undefined]: Check ISP core -- SUCCESS -- [Dev NO.Undefined]: Judge burn size -- SUCCESS -- [Dev NO.Undefined]: Format Flash -- SUCCESS -- [Dev NO.Undefined]: Update RSV And it stays there, with the progress bar at a bit more than a half. Ideas please? If I don't figure this out, my player won't turn on anymore  |
Just keep on trying - I think you will success in the 3. or 4th. attempt,as I did.
|
and perhaps with read verify unchecked?

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General
Well, it work after I re-create the aimg file (don't ask me why). But now, being an asshole is bringing me some problems. Someone have the three original files (defaultfw, aimg, bimg) of the player (the one of the first picture of the thread)?... Yes I fucked up my original files and I can't find a set that works fine with my player. (the LogicPMP Slide Panel Firmware that is somewhere around here, works, but it mess the button layout making too hard to use the player).
By the way, the main core of the spmp3050a seems to belong to the ARMv5TEJ architecture, if someone find a disassambler of its binaries we can get closer to hack this player. |
If you can't just flash the files, you might want to enter Linux and mount AIMG, then take the files, come to windows and put them in a folder called A. The BIMG file must be put in a folder called B. Then just create a RSV image with FRM Pro and a new AIMG and BIMG will be created. After that just flash the file normally, with program all.
For aapot, I got those errors with different size (error 32) too. All you have to do is to get the files out from AIMG and create a new AIMG with the FRM Pro tool. For all, I have a lot of 32 bit games for Sunplus players (made by their SunMedia subsidiary). I will upload them and I have FRM Pro 1.19 b too. Cheers! |
No, that's not the problem. I can upload the firmware. My problem, is I lost my original files (defaultfw aimg and bimg), and I can't find a set of files that work fine on my player. I try with all posted here and a few mora that I found on google, but the closest I get is the one from the Recover Sunplus PMP post (LogicPMP Slide Panel firmware), but with it all buttons are mixed making it imposible to use the games.
So I need the set of files for the Sunplus SPMP3050A from the first picture of the post (I have that same player). Or alternatively, how to change the button layout from the "LogicPMP Slide Panel Firmware". |

I'll see if I can find some firmware on the internet. Also, I uploaded my firmware (but it's for a Sliding panel player) and after it is added you can try it. I suggest you to try mine because it looks very different from the rest around here and it could work. Too bad I don't have a player that lloks like yours, that way this would work. But somebody that has one like in the first picture should help you fix yours. I'll keep you updated with what I find :).

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General
I'm not so sure lycan2005, i've just find a firmware from a different player and even when it has a little different button layout, it is now usable, and it has realtime clock an option for make updates (i don't know how it works, i haven't test it yet) and i won't be surprise if I found something more.
It's true, there are severals models with the same processor that use different firmware (probably because they use different peripheral hardware). But it's also true that evidently there is some important difference in the instruccion set of the differents SPMP305x processors. I think, if we collect a couple of firmware more and classify them carefully, we can begin to underset how it works. By the way, the firmware I'v just tested is the one from en.s1mp3.net for the spmp3050a-pmp701. Now i'm able to use the full pmp, but it's still a bit annoying because of the changes in the buttons (in the nes emulator the layout it's almost the same and arrows are ok). Anyway, I'm still looking for the original firmware of this player, so if somebody have it I would be very thankful to revice it.

Thanks, but it doesn't seems to work neither. It seems that I'll have to wait someone that have the same model come around. |
You should modify the defaultfw.bin and/or the spmp3050a0.bin from A image. The problem is that without a compiler nor a disassambler it's something very hard to do. |
