Help!! I Can't extract my firmware nor upload a new one...

i have an SPMP3050A based mp4 player with 8-bit NES capability + Camera

I've tried pushing each button before plugging USB, i even tried short-circuiting "Line In" for hidden button but nothing works

here are some screen shot of my player (before / after disassembly)
can anybody help...
please masters... i need to be able to utilize this wonderful sunplus chip.

because i once saw the similar model with different firmware, one with switch mode capability (Flash Drive / Webcam) and built-in File Manager...

Thank you all for your attention...

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

I'm proud to announce the first homebrew game for the SPMP305x! It's nothing special, just a pong-clone, but it comes with full source. Download it at http://spmp305x.spritesserver.nl/mp4-pong/ ; the .zip contains the compiled binary, the .tgz has all the source-files licensed under the GNU GPL v3.

If you want to help to decypher the secrets of this chip, please go to http://spmp305x.spritesserver.nl/ and add where you can, or subscribe to the mailing list. Together, we should be able to get the amount of unemulated games available for this chip well above the 20-ish we have now.

hi there...is there anyone has successfully upgraded their spmp3050a?
i got this version of pmp also:
http://blurried.free.fr/PMP/SPMP3050A.jpg
when i browsed its AIMG on the skin i noticed that there are icons that were not available on actual runtime, just like the fm radio, date and time setting,etc... does that mean my pmp has a built-in fm radio?or none?is it posible to enable the missing icons?...

Sprite_tm 17th Jun 2008 10:24 am

FM and RTC (real-time clock) is dependant on the actual hardware contents of the device. Yours probably just doesn't have the FM-board and the RTC-chip built-in.

aapot 17th Jun 2008 7:12 pm

Nice job Sprite_tm. I wish I could test it :-/

I upped the usb poking tool to
http://blld.org/spmp305x/tools/spmp3...sb-0.1.tar.bz2 . Currently only supports Linux. I have Windows version that compiles using lcc but it's on another computer. To use this tool, you have to first make the device re-enumerate(*) itself using FRM pro. In this process FRM pro uploads something to the device and initiates a re-enumeration process. In this process it just disconnects from usb bus and reappears as ready to use.
Getting rsv info for instance is enough to make this happen.

Under Linux, VirtualBox should be a good choice. usbmon is great for looking at usb traffic.

As I said earlier, you can find the register names in FRM Pro installation folder.

* there is some question whether this could be considered as same process defined in usb spec.

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

(Forgive for my English) At me the same player as on 1 page, but chip SPMP3052A,
Games NES work well, GB, GBC, BIN - the player them sees but they are not started, in what there can be a reason?, at me was not radio, but I have soldered in radio SP3767AHN block, and it
Has appeared in the menu, thus an insertion did not change, on payment SK612B-070811 does not suffice much
Details, I think that if them to solder in, there will be new functions, but I do not have scheme of this player, can at whom there is a scheme lay out or a payment photo.

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

can you upload your firmware somewhere like rapidshare etc. ?
most probably you have an mp4 player like mine, which still runs very bad with non-compatible firmware..
please...

BTW, the main part list is:
CPU SPMP3052A-HL171, Board PMP-704-V21.00, TFT screen T-0028-A and camera XHB 7030

How did you manage to solder in a new chip and where? We need extensive info on this as well !

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

I could not place here a photo, have loaded it on http://depositfiles.com/files/6566468,
On my player motherboard SK612B-070811, I took the radio receiver block on chip SP3767, from the broken Chinese player (I think will go from any Chinese player where there is a radio receiver) after that have soldered in in the player, as is shown in a photo, and the radio receiver has appeared in the menu, works well!

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

Hi!

I have this player http://blurried.free.fr/PMP/SPMP3050A.jpg

I've extracted the firmware and in aimg have a 3050ABin0.bin file

When I examine this file with a hex editor I find a lot of references to a internal libraries. The strange thing is that a lot of this have the same name of windows libraries and, internaly, the mem (internal and expanded by SD) are referenced like unit C: and D:!!!

May be a windows/DOS like SO???

Definitly is not an unix derivate!

PD: A: and B: are the aimg and bimg and C: and D: are the internal and sd mem

PD2: some internal calls ARE VERY SIMILAR to a Visual Basic file edited in hex form

PD3: There are some references to C too

PD4: ...mmm...definitely is C!!

There was some gameking(?) review that had snes support enabled. In short:
-not fast enough to emulate at full speed
-not enough buttons

Read this thread and see if you can find your player here or in some of the links. If not, find a picture of your player and post it here. Someone might notice and get the fw for you. You can also try contacting the seller for fw and how to activate webcam mode.
Remember that you might have to press some other button to activate it and that there might be a hidden button somwhere.
Last resort is to open it and see if you can find some button in there. There are lots of sensitive parts in there so only remove the backplate.

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

Hey everyone, i have been reading this whole forum for the past couple days, i really want to help in what i can in figuring out this machine, i just got the slide version a few days ago.

two questions,

i have gotten into my machine doing what you have all said, so i have access to all the files, my question is, does anyone know where the file would be that assigns the controls for the NES emulator? i would like to edit whatever .bin file it may be to change the controls..

second, is it possible to organize this dang thing with folders? or can you only just dump tons of files into the preset folders like ¨GAMES¨, i would like to be able to orginize music and such.

thanks for the help, let me know if i can do anything! :D

rxmadjack, There isn't a way to make folders as far as I can tell. It is rather straight forward. But one of the things that I've considered is that the lists in the menus (music, videos, and nes games) are organized by date, then by alphabet. So, my thought is that developing a system that organized by date and then by alphabet would at least be somewhat beneficial.

In fact I working on a Linux open source software project called Clastic that manages media on a Linux system for generic MP4/MP5 players: http://sourceforge.net/projects/clastic/
It's very very early in the development process. One of the ways that I am considering managing files is by disk and then date and alphabetical.

I should have some mockups posted soon.

Hi again:

No a lot news about firmware. It's impossible to find information about the hardware, only that is an ARM with some DSP inside. Very difficult to dissasembly this code. With more info about the chipset is VERY POSSIBLE to develope new software (may be linux?) but, without this info...I don't think so!!!

PD: My firmware don't read folders, all the music must be in the same list (very uncomfortable!!) there some firmware with this feature?

sushisan 20th Aug 2008 3:13 pm

the only list of features:

How can I check my firmware version?
Can I upgrade the firmware to fix the slow nes emulator?

Sorry for my english
Thanks

I've finded one of the producers of mp4 sunplus hardware:

http://zdxmp4.com/en/Products.asp?id=41

This company produce practically all models presents in the low cost market with sunplus chipset.

My mp4 is:

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

well at last good news for me!! :D

I bought another identical mp4 and took a good backup of the new one
It has the latest -I think- firmware version (v321.5678 - 58,2mb uncompressed)..

Just now, I flashed my previous (with bad fw) mp4 with the new firmware and it is fixed 100% 8)
EDIT: well, 90% because the game emulator crashes -thats my only complain now!!

here it is uploaded:
http://rapidshare.com/files/140791876/PMPV321.5678.rar

EDIT: this fw is for board PMP-704-V23.00

From first look, this new fw has 10 languages, an upgrade function, better sound maybe more..?

sushisan 28th Aug 2008 11:03 am

mmm... maybe read folders???

luketanti 28th Aug 2008 11:52 am

Hello. I've been reading this topic and downloaded the firmwares. I have a PMP like this one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9504 but i bought this from ebay. I extracted the firmware and i noticed it is very different. it is only 27mb uncompressed. It can play nes games only. No radio No clock. Here is my firmware.

sushisan 28th Aug 2008 11:53 am

this firmware is totally different of the original!!! The internals seems to be a some kind of unix...very interesting!!!

luketanti 28th Aug 2008 11:59 am

I tried to install the other firmwares but none of them worked. I use frm pro to install and extract. Do you know how can i make the clock visible??

sushisan 28th Aug 2008 4:50 pm

Some firmware fails to update to me. But if you mount AIMG and BIMG, copy the content into A and B folders and remake images (see: http://www.skmp3.com/Technical/2008/0512/article_4.html ) usually works very well!

luketanti 29th Aug 2008 5:36 am

I tired what you said but it didn't work. I think my PMP uses different type of firmware.

sushisan 29th Aug 2008 11:10 am

Maybe! Are you sure that your chipset is a 305x?

The 90% of the FW I've proved doesn't work in my SPMP3050a!!!

luketanti 29th Aug 2008 12:19 pm

Yes. I open it and the big chip had sunplus logo and 3050 written on it. Can you edit my firmware so i can play gbc games too. Because nes games are a bit boring.

sushisan 29th Aug 2008 1:21 pm

I can't edit the firmware because I don't have any information about CPU and hardware

xeirwn 30th Aug 2008 3:19 am

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

Finally, some documentation about Sunplus 3050

after lot of search in chinese, here is the datasheet:

http://rapidshare.com/files/141264157/SPMP3050__1_.pdf

Hope it is useful for developers

sushisan 30th Aug 2008 6:08 am

Nice, is the schematic of a demo board. But is not the datasheet of the spmp3050!!!

For "touch" the FW we need the specifications of the microcontroller!!!

xeirwn 1st Sep 2008 12:16 pm

Re: Sunplus SPMP3050A - General

Well, some other discoveries:

My new mp5 (looks exactly like the pic in the first post..)
CAN play nes, gb, gbc and .bin (no gba or anything else)..
Judging from texts and file sizes, I believe the code for this emulators is hidden somewhere (in ROM perhaps?) of each device!!
(the files are just too small and contain only messages)

Moreover, I found out that most .BIN files in folders in A\RO_RES\SKIN1
can be opened with Notepad and all settings for displaying stuff is there!

You can also set the default folders for the machine to use
by altering file SYSPATH.BIN at RO_RES/SKIN1 !!
By using other skin2, we can change between two folders this way 8)

At A\RO_RES\SKIN1\desk there are gfx for a File Browser, but the fw doesnt use it... :!:

So, if there is a good programmer, I think it is easy to
make a skin creator for this mp4

luketanti 2nd Sep 2008 5:10 am

Can you please upload the new mp5 firmware please?

luketanti 3rd Sep 2008 10:48 am

The pmp i have do not have dictionary do you think if i copy the dict files from other firmware to mine will work?
I wish to add more features like time, radio, dictionary, tv recorder, and improve camera. Please if some one knows how tell me.This is my fimware.

muffin 7th Sep 2008 11:23 pm

googling around with some of the filenames as string, I came across what seems to be a developer forum for chinese firmwares and the like. google did a surprisingly good job at translating those pages into human language :P, so give it a try... you might find some useful information there...

http://translate.google.com/translat...sl=zh-CN&tl=en

This actually seems to be the firmware-updater-heaven! only catch (big one) is that you cannot download anything, or register into the forums... at least I couldn't.
Somehow, I got to see a Vssver.scc file, and that seems to be a tool used to maintain/distribute the fw source code among different developers. that's a visual source safe file, which is a windows tool... although all the binary files seem to be made using some sort of unix system, not sure. hope it helps any programmer/programmer-wanna-be out there.
cheers!
