Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
The New Rockchip players are not as Unbrickable as I thought.
Sadly it seems my association with Rk27xx new rockchip players has now come to an end and I have now "BRICKED" my player for good I think. Experimenting with firmware I now have a non-working set of firmware folders on the hidden partition, but the 60Mb firmware partition has now closed permanently and all I have is a white screen Rkusb.tag will no longer open it and I can now only access the main player memory. I have also tried teclast.sys, holding down the menu button while connecting the USB and the Rockchip official upgrade tool (RK27Upgrade.exe) can't find it, even opened the player to try the tweezers trick to unhide the 60Mb partition, but no dice. I am now looking at what windows partitioning tools will work on USB drives to try and Unhide the 60Mb area. All I need to do is get the hidden firmware partition open so I can remove the non-working firmware and copy back my original, I am now open to suggestions? |
right
there is a new tool called RK27DM now visit this link and try the routines in there, i know you do not have the rkw file, but if you let all the instuctions run and load the S:flo firmware, what this tool does is repartition the drive, once it has done that maybe you can get back into the palyer and put in your original drivers when running this too it will ask for some new rk drivers that alow access to this partition worth a shot http://www.mp4nation.net/forum/viewt...hp?f=38&t=4840 i would just follow all the instructions here and see if you can at leats get the partition back and recognised |
also, if you get one of the compiled firmwares, any maybe will do, and rename it to setup.rkw, it may also help it tkick back in
just a thought |
Thanks for help makd.
But I think I may be the first person to successfully brick one of these. Tried the RK27DM, loaded up the .rkw, I would have expected it to work, but the "R" button didn't become active and I was not asked for drivers, so it's like the 60Mb partition don't exist. Also tried copying setup.rkw to the main memory also no luck. I loaded up "Partition Manager" on my PC got the main USB partition but no sign of the 60Mb one hidden or otherwise, looks bad. |
what does device manager say, does it have anything reffering to this hidden partition??
what about creating a new 60 meg partition, and then copying all the original folders on there?? partition manager are odd with these as they dont see the player as one drive with partitions, but as individual drives, which is a a pain i did have one occasion with my ramos where all he drives were bown away by a dodgy vid file, all gone, but i could do the setup.rkw thing and all was ok, but it was recvered i refuse to believe that all is lost |
Even if I go devmgmt.msc from start/run and opt to show hidden devices, no trace, I even looked at the end of REGISTER.DAT for the firmware in question, just in case they decided to call rkusb.tag something different like teclast.sys does, but no go there either.
I'm not even gonna be able to recreate the partition 'cause I would need to access the hidden drive. Only thing I can access is the players main drive. I'm gonna have to lay this one to rest, but oh well, at least I get to be the first to brick one of these! |
damn shame
i thought maybe on the main drive to create a partition and see if that worked this is all very odd, i am sure you have, but have you tried plugging into another xp machine to see if it will kick in at all what exactly were you trying to do when all went tits up?? there have been occasions where people have tried to run the rkdm app and it did not work, but trying on another machine, maybe a third did the trick |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
yaay! I got it back
I'm off to celebrate now! more details with pictures to follow!! |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
Well I thought I got nothing to lose so I'm gonna open up the player again and run a jewellers screwdriver tip across all the chip memory legs I can find to try and force a hard reset.
I had to prise up the big battery, It almost covers the whole pcb, and keep running the tip across the legs shown on the photo. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...a/RockPCB1.jpg Every now and again I would get the usb connected sound, but one time I got the new hardware found notification, so I just pointed it to RK27driver folder in the SFLOUPGRADEKIT, and bingo it installed the Rockusb driver, I quickly ran the RK27DM.exe and yes the "R" button was now active so I clicked that and got several dialog boxes in chinese so I just said YES to all of them. The program seemed to fail after that. So I disconnected the player and reconnected but no 60Mb partition the main one popped up so I clicked on it then and formatted it and then copied RKusb.tag to it and disconnected and reconnected again. Then up popped the 60Mb partition, the teclast firmware had only partly installed but enough was done to fix things so all I did then was copy by backup folders in and my player was back. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a.../RockPlay1.jpg So with some determination, the SFLOUPGRADEKIT (thanks again makd), problem sorted. BTW notice the Wolfson sized pcb pads to the bottom left of the PCB |
knob
i knew you would get it back, for you to just put this thing away and be defeated ... no way well, really well done here, persistence paid off!! but i still think you need to get an ingenics player, the moddin potential for that is much better i feel and you will be able to get your teeth really sunk in, there is a file called cccomp.bin with alot of exposed code and someone over n the nation has overclocled the CPU to 400, plus rockbox, as you now, is well on the way, and lots of other things from TOMAC on the ondabbs, plus also onda are having a full out modding comp at the moment for both UI modding and firmware modding in the extreme which may produce some interesting results well done again for raising the dead, i had faith even if you did not :) good one |
BTW, that space could be wolfson, or a space for te tv out chip, i think rockchip uses one from epson and there is a tv out verion of this player also
get out the soldering iron |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
I've been following this thread since the beginning, I am interested in this player. Is there any reason to buy this one versus the Onda copy with the new Rockchip. They are now about the same price at Tinydeal, but the Onda copy does have a touchscreen. Any input would be appreciated!
|
i have the onda copy player, its a little rough round the edges, build could be alot better, one small drop and this baby will be in pieces
battery is awfull, at the moment 1 movie is all i can just get from it touch screen works well, need stylus though and itd not an iphone style, drag touch screen screen is bright and movies player well, basically as far as functionality goes it will be on a par with the other one knob has, they are both rocchip with the same level of functionality BUT, mine came with broken headphone socket, knobs was dodgy to start with but righted itself, mine did not i wil warn though, the screen has a protective cover on it from the factory, but it is trapped at the edges under the body of the player, so have to be extremely carefull in removing this overall it works, touch works, no firmware updates and at the moment this is a pain because rockchip have released new movie formats and video resume as standard, you will never get this with this player, maybe in a couple of months hen a new batch get thrown from the/a factory it may contain whatever the latest firmware is in them, but tinydal have thousends of these players already... battery is the biggest bug bear, 4-5, poss 6 audio is really bad, but this is what you get for such a low price, its basically a throw away player, as long as you see it like that and can live with the imperfections then go for it |
I would say if want the touch screen player get the proper Onda vx747, but if you do want something cheaper then go for this non touch screen, it's good value for the 8GB one, It's quite a solid player, the battery life seems quite good and it IS the full 3" widescreen.
If you look at the PCB photo above bottom right over the earphone socket, there was some masking tape over the earphone socket to prevent shorting out, I moved it a bit and now I have no problems, not even the buzzing sound I got before. Only thing you have to watch for is there was a virus in the firmware partition and if you set the backlight below 3 it goes out so you can't see to navigate, but the audio with PlayFX is very good and its very handy not having to convert movies and clips. These things are improving all the time so it's not always worth spending too much money. I seem to buy a new player every 9 months or so anyway, I've got 4 cheap ones now, and they are all still working. I will try and do some tests on the battery life and feedback, but the battery is big and the player quite heavy. http://www.tinydeal.com/images/la2-08g.jpg |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
Thanks guys, that's just the info I was looking for. I've got an 858LE clone, but it's an old one and works well. I'm not impressed with the touch interface, but it works well enough. The battery life with the KNC clone is enough to win my vote. I like Rockchip players (I have an old C260 that I love), and I'd be willing to try an Ingenics, but I doubt I could find an 8GB for about $60 shipped!

Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
maybe give it a few weeks
rockchip players and tv-out are now big business and this is now filtering down to smaller no brand plyer on the Chinese market, so i was gonna email tinydeal and see if they are gonna get any in, prob add about $5 to the price just a thought edit was just gonna post this one for you to look at but it seems it is already tv out in this player .. possibly, this is a rip again of an onda player (757) but it claims tvout, only 4gb http://www.tinydeal.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=584 http://img.tinydeal.com/mp3/tqc.jpg |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
I'm in no rush, especially if something better is coming soon (maybe)!
|
I would get someone's opinion on this vx757 lookalike first before buying.
This is another quick rip off from an Ingenics player and again the build quality could be bad. Again in this instance might be better to get a real vx757. You see, I can see a pattern to this, Ipod nano rip offs = bad. then the Vx858 rip offs = bad then the vx747 rip offs = bad the vx757 rip offs = ??? If you see what I mean |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
Done the first Battery test on this player
http://www.tinydeal.com/images/la2-08g.jpg I ran the player down completely and recharged using the supplied wall charger. Total time to reach a full charge was 4 and a half hours. So I let the player run overnight with the backlight set to on all the time, playing mp3's random, at number 18 volume setting. The player ran for just over 7 and a half hours before it shut down. I will do a test now with the backlight off, which is the standard test, but so far not bad at all, better than I thought. |

I would like to found a upgrade firmware provider for it. I know that rockchip is capable of display cover art... the problem is where to get the apropriate version. Finally this player doesn't have the Wolfson chip  |
at the moment the only rockchip player with cover art are the Teclast T50/nationite s:flo, no other player nor update has yet been given to any older players
there were rumours of one last update to the ramos rm970 that would give album art but this has not surfaced as yet knowing the way these chinese companies work they will never give an older player this ability but just build a new palyer to sell with album art in from the start, why make an older product better when all they want to do is grab more money from you, they aint in this business to make things easy and good for us, they are in it to make money |

This is EASILY possible on ANY player that can play movies and display pictures. Quote:

I don't know how acts Korean manufacturers for instance... or Apple for their infamous iPod Nano. |
To be fair to the Chinese, the big brand names often also don't update the firmware for the same reasons, and it's shut down so tight that any modding is out of the question, except with say Sandisk Sansa where they co-operated with the Rockbox community.
I for example have a Philips, 1 firmware update, my partner has a Samsung Z5, 2 firmware updates, - not exactly spectacular support! The truth is they don't want you to hang on to your old player too long, or make it too good, they want you to the next player instead, so it's really left to us to make the best of our players we can. |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
About the cover art thing - The Teclast M26 also supports cover art, this is confirmed by the Teclast OEM. Yeah, I know all of the talk about the RM970 supporting cover art. I think that this rumor is because Ramos released/leaked an early photo of the RM970 with a completely different screen shot showing cover art that was photoshopped in. It's too late for the RM970, Ramos has moved on.
About the disposable nature of things - Just the fact that these players have a rechargable battery that cannot be replaced because the player cannot be opened (without possibly damaging the unit) is another example how most manufacturers don't really expect users to keep these units. Hey, they would love to sell you a brand new unit every year instead of replacing your battery. Now, we as consumers, especially the mp4 player enthusiasts that we are, are going to buy the new ones every year anyway because we can't resist the new features, capability, and sex appeal of the newer product. |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
About the firmware update thing - I'm all with you that it would seem to be not such a big deal to update two lines of code. In a perfect world they would do this. Everytime the firmware is updated a good company has to have it tested thorougly to make sure that something didn't break in the fimware (sometimes just recompiling and linking the firmware can break something if you are not careful). Also, the engineers who worked on the original project may be busy working on some other project (with a nearing deadline) or those engineers may no longer be working for the company (China has a very high rate of engineers changing jobs, more so than the USA).

Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
@knob... or other user of the new chip RK2706:
Is still for videos the audio codec MP2?... of course out of the support from RMVB |
Quote:
also a trick i found out, if you have files ending in "divx" of "xvid" just change the file extension to "avi" and they wil (should) work, no need to convert newer rockchip player firmware now have 3gp, mpg, asf, wmv support also but i doubt the no brand players will have this yet, maybe in a couple of months when new stocks are introduced |
Quote:
So it has WMV???... is this with WMA as audio codec? |
Quote:
Newer rockchip players now have these codecs in but like i say, tthese no brand clones will either never see them or not for a while, the s:flo has them through an upgrade and the new 4.3" players from onda, ramos and ainol all will have them, plus the ainol v3000 has a remote control and tv out - should be interestingp plus a screen of 800x480!!! and LTPS - cant wait for that one, big but ... |
Just tried a firmware RK2706 from this site:-
http://www.qqmp4.net/ Firmware booted up fine, dancing penguins an' all that, just the buttons wouldn't navigate. So plugged the usb in copy my old firmware back, noticed the firmware partition didn't open up. They use the sneaky FRK.tag to open the firmware partition, works fine if you just rename rkusb.tag to FRK.tag, just something to watch out for. It's referred to in REGISTER.DAT at the end. Quote:
|
They are getting more creative, just tried another Rk27xx firmware, same site but this time it's yuxtest1.yux  to open the firmware, again I just renamed RKusb.tag to yuxtest1.yux to open up the firmware partition.
Quote:
The idea of being able to safely back the firmware up on these players is going out of the window fast :x Just found another variant yuxtest2.yux Quote:
|
you are certainly going for it here knob :)
how many are you trying!!!! you know, i am not sure how they did this, but some guys over at ramos.net managed to create a mixed firmware from several different version of rm970 firmware, so it had much of the stale 2.10 code along with all the enhancements of later firmwares, when i load this onto my rm970 it tells me its verison 2.10, but it has all the video resume features etc of later firmwres just a thought and i have not looked into what they did toy achieve this www.ramos.net is the site and look for 2.10+2.23 posts thought if we could fig out how they did it we may be able to get some bits into these no brand players cheers |
well knob, some players allow access to the hidden partition via holding a certain key down, like the rm970 can and a couple of the imitation rm970 players can also
so this may be a method to try if the tag files wont work googling the YUX thing reveals some links on mydigit site and apparenty used by some new Hacha players i think there will always be some way to get at the files, and it may be on a per player basis, or players type, like the rm970 and ones made in that style and the tweezers along the memory chip is always our last resort as this opens the hidden partition also, raz was doing this with the s:flo until we found the tag file reference in the firmware |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
Yes, i've looked at every Rk27xx firmware on http://www.qqmp4.net/
I found you can pretty much mix around everything and the player will still boot up, but you can't get much in the way of extra functionality, all I have able to do so far was move the text on the player by swapping the CWIDTH16.BIN with the CWIDTH24.BIN renamed to CWIDTH16.BIN The one to crack is BASE.RKW for extra functionality, problem is if you play with that the slightest, then the player doesn't boot up, there is some checking going on and it takes place within BASE.RKW itself. I've swopped around REGISTER.DAT and the codecs, no problems, if you swap BMP0.BIN around the player will still boot up, but of course all the pictures are messed up and in the wrong place  |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
Hi,
Iīm an owner of a VX747 Clone. It looks like this one: http://www.mympxplayer.org/pafiledb/...shots/ta5a.jpg from KINGZON. Display is 3" with real 8GB flash and touchscreen. firmware is RK27SDK v1.2, Hardware ID 080422. The gamepad icon on the desktop is named calendar and after a click on it there is only a menu to select a stop watch  Iīve played arround with some other firmware but nothing works. The player didnīt start and the screen was white. But with help of this forum I could recover every time back to my backup firmware ;) The only one working is the VX747 firmware from the download location. It looks like my firmware and itīs working (http://www.mympxplayer.org/rockchip-...706-df897.html) Is there a way to add new codecīs to play mpg files? I have tried to copy extracted files from another firmware to my player (Register.dat, rk_mpeg0.out, rk_mpeg2.out or rk_mpeg4.out) but the player did not start after a reset. ... btw, great forum with a great community ! |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
Ango,
I'm afraid that you are stuck with the file formats that come with that player. While there are ways to change background themes and some other stuff, the file formats that the player supports are part of the actual firmware itself. This can only be changed by the manufacturer because they have the source code for the firmware. - David |
unfortunately just adding the codec files is no good, the BASE file, or core firmware code needs to reference them and pull them in to the main firmware for use, so it will not recognise them at all without this
we will have to hope that later batches of these player include a newer firmware i did ask tinydeal about updates!!!, they were adamant that none of their players would recieve updates, which is pretty much what i expected this is a shame as the base rockchip firmware has now added several new movie formats, audio and video resume and even game emulation and with these cheap, one shot players, we will never see these updates in nfact, actually, try load a game rom, go to explorer and select the file and see if it works, i know on the s:flo that no icon is present for games, but it will work if you select the game file direct - may be worth a shot |
Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?
well my fake onda vx747 rockchip player i got from tinydeal has decided to commit suicide
now i bought this player purely to test and see the quality of these cheap no-name players, but my daughter kinda adopted this thing and as such i have done nothing with it in terms of modding, hacking, taking apart etc so basically through no reason at all its just gone and lost the firmware partition .. its just gone, wont boot up now, recognise the main memory only now this players was faulty from the start, earphone jack knacked, i was gonna fix it but my daughter mainly uses it with the speaker so i did not bother anyway, i am now gonna do some recovery this is not good, and i am just about ready to do my review on this player, i know its been a while but i never do reviews until i have had a player for a good while, just in case things go wrong down the line and i don't like to recommend unless i am totally sure, needles to say i will not be giving this player a glowing report anyway, let you all know how i get on cheap junk!!! |
