knob 7th Sep 2008 2:27 am

yes, It seems these players are just made to make a quick buck out of buyers who want a player to look like an ipod, it's the vx858 all over again.

When I lost my 60mb partition I had to do the pin shorting trick to get S-flo toolkit to recognise it, but the problem was my own fault, i was "experimenting" with firmware at the time, I can't say I have any problems with normal use.

Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?

First thanx for reply.

My boot partition was often gone after playing around with firmware.
If nothing worked Iīve used RK27DM.exe from a M400 firmeware and used Recover option, something with "(R)" between japanese signs :?
You have also install rockusb27.inf first otherwise the update wont start.

Ok, the player wasnīt working right after that, cause itīs a wrong firmware, but after copy rkusb.tag & teclast.sys to the main partion and a reboot I could see the boot partition and I could copy my backup output folder back.

Think knob and makd511 are right. We need to hack the Base.rkw

Does this player from TinyDeal have a TV out function? I found a player that looks just like it on another web page, and it supposedly has TV out. It's here:

http://www.xproshop.com/shan5.html

Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?

No, this player doesn't have a TV out function at TinyDeal. the only TV out function RK2706 player is this http://www.tinydeal.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=584 at TinyDeal.

bencebacsi 8th Sep 2008 11:27 am

Btw, I have received 3 of this player http://www.tinydeal.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=427 from TinyDeal. These players came with a bad programmed firmware: the sound volume is not adjustable anyway. I reported this problem at TinyDeal, but they didn't gave a useful answer. I experienced that always, they have no competent employees to solve technical problems. They providing some downloadable firmwares not compatible with the actual players, just brick them, if anybody make an update with them.

jsevinsk 8th Sep 2008 11:41 am

Hmm, I wonder of XProShop is selling the same player and listed their specs wrong, or if it really is a different player with TV out.

Also, do any of these players have a hold switch? And how does the MicroSD expansion card work? Is it pretty much transparent to the user, or do you have to select whether you want to play stuff from the internal memory or the card?

knob 8th Sep 2008 11:47 am

There is no TV out on my player from Tinydeal, not sure about the hold function, my player came with the wrong instructions.!

The microSD card is mounted by the player seperately, you can't access media on both card and main memory at the same time, which is a bit of a pain, all players with sd slots seem to work this way :(

bencebacsi 8th Sep 2008 11:50 am

There's hold function of the touch screen players, the others have no. The only slide switch is the on/off button.

makd511 8th Sep 2008 11:52 am

that player

there is actually a tv out version of this player out and about in china, several china companies have re branded it, but as alway when buying from sites like that do research, send email and get full confirm

also look at the problems associated with these cheap players, knobs audio jack was faulty, taking it apart was the fix, my player audio jack was broken from start and now randomly loses the firmware, and bencebacsi has 3 players with faults ... is it worth t in the end, cheap yes, but at what cost, many peole who buy are not tech minded and will be lost or out of pocket

makd511 8th Sep 2008 12:49 pm

well, i have recovered my 747 rockchip fake POS

did not go quite as planned but worked anyway

so i used the sfloupdate files from mp4nation

i started the RK27DM program
plugged in the player and the program recognised it
the 1st button "U" was not active, so i pressed the "R" button
this brought up a failed message
so i unplugged the player and plugged back in
windows started the new hardware wizard and asked for drivers
i pointed it to the rkusb drivers and let it install then
looked in explorer and the drive was back again, but not formatted
so i formatted the drive, and copied the files back over and alll worked
good thing is that the main partition was not formatted

so all was back in action

no i wonder if the "R" button means Recovery, there is a small "setup.rkw" file with the rk27dm download, it could be copying this to the player, so when you restart it calls that into play to as for the drivers

wonder if you just copy that file next time to the main drive and reconnect that it may initiate the call for driver to get back the partition, i may try this again to see if it woorks, if so this could be an easy way to recovery

I really want to know some more about this player:
http://www.tinydeal.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=584

Is it any good?, how does the menu look
How long does music play without backlight
I think Tinydeal gives way to less information and pictures about their products, the information they give suffers from a lot of details for example AVI(It's a container but what formats, Divx? Xvid?)

makd511 13th Sep 2008 2:06 pm

right

this is a new rockchip rk2706 player and as such is quite capably, member hotboxx just got one of he and did a review on it

it will play AVI in divx or xvid at varying quality and size, it also plays FLV, RMVB too

as for the UI, it will be noting spectacular, but can be modded in its looks quite easily

http://www.mympxplayer.org/tinydeal-...ghlight=#52123

at the end of th day the chip used is quite capable, even more capable if they ever did updates for these cheap players as branded players have now got several more movie codecs you will never see on this player

this is the link to the hotboxx review with, as ever from hotboxx, plenty of images

Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?

Hard decision for me, you are an expert what would you go for

Ramos RM970 *GB(Unbranded but works with updates), from MP4nation - $74.50

The one discussed http://www.tinydeal.com/index.php?ma...e4abf2b0134a39 - $57.65

Or the one above http://www.tinydeal.com/index.php?ma...e4abf2b0134a39 - $56.92

The one I like most is http://www.tinydeal.com/index.php?ma...e4abf2b0134a39 But I don't know if it's a wise decision

Also I wonder if those Ramos RM970 themes are compatible with all the players above

makd511 14th Sep 2008 5:53 am

main difference

the ramos unbranded has more functionality as it can use the updated firmwares from several re branders (ramos, mobiblu, pentagram), things you may like to have are video resume, fit to screen, extended battery

the one you want is good for the price but you are stuck with the firmware and functionalty that comes with it, and it ismore than likely you will never find any updates fr the player to extend its capabilities

they are cheap, 8gb for that price is very tempting, but you get what you pay for, and that is a non updatable player with lesser build quality

ramos themes wil not work on the players from tinydeal, only the ramos and unbranded ramos as they are the same player from same factory, thesmes are specific to a player and cant be swapped around at will, but you can theme the tiny deal players

personally my tinydeal players and a few others so far have not been good, mine had broken rar socket on arrival and has crashed 3 times where the firmware has ust wiped of for no reason, and i am not even modding or messing with it as my daughter use it, but it ust loses the firmware for no reson, a few others with the same player as me (747 rockchip fake) are also experiencing problems

these cheap tinydeal players are tempting but you do get what you pay for and i feel you need to be a bit techy and wiling to experiment to get them to work properly, i would say get the ramos if you want a MUCH better screen (16 millio colors) and to take advantage of the updates that the tiny deal players will never see as firmware updates are not going to happen I asked them this)

knob 14th Sep 2008 6:01 am

Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?

If price is an issue I'd say that this player is probably about the best that tinydeal have got on their site:-
http://www.tinydeal.com/images/la2-08g.jpg

I am happy with mine now, but I did have to play around with it and it doesn't have the extra features the RAmos has.

So if you can pay a bit more then get the RAmos from MP4nation, you'll get better support , a better player and proper quality control.

Hit 14th Sep 2008 6:29 am

Well price isn't much of a problem but I mean if it's available cheaper I prefer a cheaper one

Do you know if there are any noticeable differences(Performance, bugs) between ramos RM970 and the TinyDeal KNC clone one
Also I wonder wether the Tinydeal one accepts 8GB Micro SDHC
I found some ebay listings saying upgradeable 16GB - 32GB
I also found an ebay listing that has one with TV-Out I like that but I think it costs much more for just that extra feuture:
http://cgi.ebay.nl/8-GB-3-ZOLL-TV-OU...QQcmdZViewItem

Maybe there is some shop like tinydeal selling one with tv-out

knob 14th Sep 2008 6:38 am

All RK2706 players are supposed to support SDHC, but I can't confirm this as I don't have one to try.

Is an FM Radio important?, the one mine had was very poor reception.

btw the card slot is not as good as it sounds, if you did add 8GB you can't access all at once as a 16Gb total, you have to mount the card on it's own from the player's menu, afiak all card slots on mp4 players work this way

Hit 14th Sep 2008 6:53 am

FM Radio is not so important
I don't really understand what you mean by the Micro SDHC card
How can't you access all at ones you mean like songs from internal and microsd are separately sorted I understand that
I was mainly planing to install 8GB microsdhc just for movies alone so that wouldn't be a problem at all

Oh one more very important question for me, does it have a Shuffle function in the way of just a button in the main menu
I used to have an ipod and I always just pressed shuffle button didn't do other things like searching for single songs or albums to play(That's why I sold my expensive ipod classic)

knob 14th Sep 2008 7:18 am

Good idea putting all the vids on the card, should work fine for you.

You access the shuffle option from the Menu "M" button but only whilst a track is playing.

So you start playing a track, press the "M" button,
a menu pops up, then select play mode, then select shuffle, from then on the setting will be be saved until you select play mode again and change it back to ordered.

You can also sort by artist, album and genre and add tracks to a favourite list.

Hit 14th Sep 2008 7:26 am

I see I can live with that, an Shuffle button would be easier but that option works fine

The last thing I want to know is how does the back look like
Because I want to know if it's scratches with my ipod classic it scratched the first day I got it and bought bulky protection making it even bigger

I'm going to buy it off of ebay, as I like the ebay system
I found this seller which seems to be Tinydeal it self and is even 2 Euro cheaper :P

http://cgi.ebay.nl/Coversion-Free-3-...QQcmdZViewItem

Edit:
Now I finaly decided to get this player, I still find it hard to pick one because there seem more then one of these

I think this one is quite nice because it has TV-out
http://cgi.ebay.nl/NEW-GENUINE-8GB-8...QQcmdZViewItem

But it is an different one because I saw that the TV-out versions have an different menu like this: http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...g?t=1220498726
Meaning that I don't know if it functions the same

Hit 14th Sep 2008 8:29 am

Ok I made my decision now
I'm going to buy this one
http://cgi.ebay.nl/NEW-GENUINE-8GB-8...QQcmdZViewItem

Is this an ok one this is the one with the different menu but tv-out
What I believe is that the core is the same so it should be capable of playing the same things right?

knob 14th Sep 2008 8:58 am

Ok, just give the player a good looking over when you get it to make sure it's as advertised, a lot of ebay seller's are not honest with the description.

You should get TV-out and 3gp support extra which I don't have on my player.

The back is just plain enamelled steel like the ebay photo, not very pretty but it doesn't scratch.

Good luck with your buy and let us know your opinion of it. :)

Hit 14th Sep 2008 9:39 am

Ok thanks, I just purchased it now I have to wait 14 Days (I think as Dealextreme also takes 14 days) tough can't wait

makd511 14th Sep 2008 12:02 pm

specs seem a little off on the video formats

the general ones are
FLV, RM, RMVB AVI(xvid, divx)

now, with updates and later firmwares we have
3gp, mp4, ASF, and a couple of others

so we will have to wait and see what your player can actually do

Hit 14th Sep 2008 12:24 pm

I only need Divx and Xvid tough, as that are the most common formats I deal with
I don't even know what ASF is, MP4 would be nice tough, not that I use it much but it's a known format

jsevinsk 24th Sep 2008 5:53 am

So, I bought a player that looks just like this from an eBay auction. On the back, it says it's a DMTECH DM-MP910. I decided to play around with loading different firmware (after saving the current firmware). So now it just has a black screen. I tried to recover it with the RK27Upgrade v2.5 tool. The tool loaded the firmware OK, but I still have the black screen. So, what's the Rock27Boot.bin boot code that comes with that package? Does it need to match the firmware that I took from the drive? Are there other versions of this boot code that I can try?

Update:

OK, I tried something else. I first ran the RK27DM.exe tool that came with the V2.5 upgrade, which also included a TL-T50.RKW file. After doing that, I was able to copy the rkusb.tag and teclast.sys files to the player, and after I unplugged and plugged it back in, I was able to get access to the partition that contains the firmware. I deleted all that and copied in the firmware that I had saved. It still doesn't work, but this time, it locks up on a red screen instead of black. And now the main partition is messed up, and Windows wanted me to reformat it. Is there another RKW file that I can play around with?

knob 24th Sep 2008 12:23 pm

Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?

When your player is dead you can use the "R" button on RK27DM.exe (Rockchip Device Manager) program just to get your player into rockUSB mode - (monitor this in remove hardware icon manager)
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...lipboard01.jpg
Then you can use the Upgrade tool to install the firmware folders (no rkusb.tag needed)

download upgrade tool here:-
http://www.mympxplayer.org/rockchip-...v25-df881.html

Player needs to be in RockUsb mode to use this, remember to check this in remove hardware icon manager)
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...lipboard03.jpg

So

1) If your player is dead and your firmware partition is damaged then connect it to usb.
2) Run RK27DM.exe and load in any RKW firmware.
3) If the R button is active just press it, (if no R button is active then install the rockusb27.sys driver)
4) Click YES on the 2 message boxes that come up and watch for the RockUsb icon (in remove hardware)
5) when you get the icon close the RK27DM.exe program (still with the RockUSB icon active)
6) Run the upgrade tool you just downloaded.
7) Load firmware folders into upgrade tool.
8 ) Press the upgrade button and watch it do it's thing
9) When finished you just need to format the main 8GB memory in Fat 32

and you're Done! 8)

I used this method to recover my player when i corrupted the firmware by shutting the pc down with the player connected.. It worked a treat for me, but remember it doesn't work if your firmware partition is good. but you can use teclast.sys or rkusb.tag on a good partition instead..

jsevinsk 24th Sep 2008 1:02 pm

Thanks for the procedure! It all seemed to go just as you described, except that what I'm left with is a player with a black screen that shows up as two removable disks -- one that's about 62 meg, and one that's the remainder of the 4 gig. Both disks are empty. I tried just copying the firmware files that I initially sucked out of it back into the 62 meg disk, but when I rebooted, those files were gone. A couple of questions:

What's this "boot code" that the RK27Upgrade V2.5 tool needs?

When you said "it doesn't work if your firmware partition is good", does that mean I have to mess it up before starting this procedure?

knob 24th Sep 2008 2:46 pm

Yes, I had to do it this way when the 62mb partition wouldn't open using rkusb.tag, so it must have got messed up somehow.

afaik the "boot code" doesn't matter much, my player isn't matched to the "boot code"

There is one "boot code" with the RKDM tool and another different one with the upgrade tool and it doesn't seem to matter which you use.
I take it you copied the 4 folders into the 60 meg hidden partition and then rebooted:-

APPDATA
RESOURCE
SYSTEM
SYSTEM00

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...a/rkusbtag.jpg

Your firmware copy may be damaged, have you tried all the other firmwares in the downloads that look like your player.?

makd511 24th Sep 2008 2:46 pm

try formatting the 62meg partiton and then copy the files and also format the main amery as well, and you did disconnect safely via the taskbar icon??

can not understand why the files would keep getting wiped

are you copying the files manually, i would do it manually if you are not

i have never used the upgrade tool yet just the rk27dm tool and press the R button to get m partition back and copy over iles again

jsevinsk 24th Sep 2008 7:10 pm

Re: Did anyboby buy this PMP from Tinydeal?

I tried this same thing with some other firmware from a similar player (don't remember which one now), and it did work OK -- sort of. The "M" and the arrow buttons don't do anything -- but I believe that was already discussed earlier.

As far as "copying them manually", I was using Windows to drag-and-drop the folders. Would any other way be different?

Hit 25th Sep 2008 6:27 am

I just arrived mine took 9 days after I got shipment notice
It's a really good player except the fact that I paid extra for TV-Out and then the TV-Out only works for audio(While any player can use a 3.5MM Jack to Component audio worth $1.5 on dealextreme)
So I'm going to ask the seller some money back tough I doubt it because I'm knowledged with these sellers they probably don't even make 6 Euro on my sale more like 1 or 2 Euro

makd511 25th Sep 2008 6:33 am

did you get any tv out cables

and which player did you get

Hit 25th Sep 2008 6:43 am

Yes I got TV-Out cable with Yellow Red White but the Yellow for picture doesn't do anything while playing movie
I got this one:
http://cgi.ebay.nl/NEW-GENUINE-8GB-8...QQcmdZViewItem

Oh And something Else I want to mention I Use a Macbook and it works perfectly fine on a Mac, in Disk Utility it even shows the Hidden Partition, tough as it's hidden Mac doesn't automatically mount it but I can see it's existing withouth the trick

makd511 25th Sep 2008 6:54 am

movie and tv out

what system does the player support and on the movie player screen is there no icon for tv out, if not get some money back

be creful with mac as sometimes it copies over extra files which can cause problems, also do not try any other firmware on this player at all it may not work and also if you can see the hidden partition make a copy/backup of these files for when the player dies

Hit 25th Sep 2008 8:05 am

I will make a backup copy first thing I'm going to do
And there is nothing that indicates TV-Out, but does it normally do on these players

Oh and to my surprise the manual is for the new rockbox players

And another problem I transfered a Family Guy episode as test it only plays 9 Seconds then it shows "file format error"
Tough I think because something got wrong in transfer

Oh and I wonder if I can change the theme on this thing(I have windows using bootcamp)

jsevinsk 25th Sep 2008 8:11 am

As for TV out cables, I've seen two different kinds. They look the same, but they are wired differently. I would hope that any A/V cable you got with the player would be the right one.
