i knew you would get it back, for you to just put this thing away and be defeated ... no way

well, really well done here, persistence paid off!!

but i still think you need to get an ingenics player, the moddin potential for that is much better i feel and you will be able to get your teeth really sunk in, there is a file called cccomp.bin with alot of exposed code and someone over n the nation has overclocled the CPU to 400, plus rockbox, as you now, is well on the way, and lots of other things from TOMAC on the ondabbs, plus also onda are having a full out modding comp at the moment for both UI modding and firmware modding in the extreme which may produce some interesting results

well done again for raising the dead, i had faith even if you did not

good one

I've been following this thread since the beginning, I am interested in this player. Is there any reason to buy this one versus the Onda copy with the new Rockchip. They are now about the same price at Tinydeal, but the Onda copy does have a touchscreen. Any input would be appreciated!

i have the onda copy player, its a little rough round the edges, build could be alot better, one small drop and this baby will be in pieces

battery is awfull, at the moment 1 movie is all i can just get from it

touch screen works well, need stylus though and itd not an iphone style, drag touch screen

screen is bright and movies player well, basically as far as functionality goes it will be on a par with the other one knob has, they are both rocchip with the same level of functionality

BUT, mine came with broken headphone socket, knobs was dodgy to start with but righted itself, mine did not

i wil warn though, the screen has a protective cover on it from the factory, but it is trapped at the edges under the body of the player, so have to be extremely carefull in removing this

overall it works, touch works, no firmware updates and at the moment this is a pain because rockchip have released new movie formats and video resume as standard, you will never get this with this player, maybe in a couple of months hen a new batch get thrown from the/a factory it may contain whatever the latest firmware is in them, but tinydal have thousends of these players already...

battery is the biggest bug bear, 4-5, poss 6 audio is really bad, but this is what you get for such a low price, its basically a throw away player, as long as you see it like that and can live with the imperfections then go for it

I would say if want the touch screen player get the proper Onda vx747, but if you do want something cheaper then go for this non touch screen, it's good value for the 8GB one, It's quite a solid player, the battery life seems quite good and it IS the full 3" widescreen.

If you look at the PCB photo above bottom right over the earphone socket, there was some masking tape over the earphone socket to prevent shorting out, I moved it a bit and now I have no problems, not even the buzzing sound I got before.

Only thing you have to watch for is there was a virus in the firmware partition and if you set the backlight below 3 it goes out so you can't see to navigate, but the audio with PlayFX is very good and its very handy not having to convert movies and clips. These things are improving all the time so it's not always worth spending too much money.

I seem to buy a new player every 9 months or so anyway, I've got 4 cheap ones now, and they are all still working.
I will try and do some tests on the battery life and feedback, but the battery is big and the player quite heavy.

Thanks guys, that's just the info I was looking for. I've got an 858LE clone, but it's an old one and works well. I'm not impressed with the touch interface, but it works well enough. The battery life with the KNC clone is enough to win my vote. I like Rockchip players (I have an old C260 that I love), and I'd be willing to try an Ingenics, but I doubt I could find an 8GB for about $60 shipped!

maybe give it a few weeks

rockchip players and tv-out are now big business and this is now filtering down to smaller no brand plyer on the Chinese market, so i was gonna email tinydeal and see if they are gonna get any in, prob add about $5 to the price

just a thought

edit

was just gonna post this one for you to look at but it seems it is already tv out in this player .. possibly, this is a rip again of an onda player (757) but it claims tvout, only 4gb

I'm in no rush, especially if something better is coming soon (maybe)!

I would get someone's opinion on this vx757 lookalike first before buying.

This is another quick rip off from an Ingenics player and again the build quality could be bad.

Again in this instance might be better to get a real vx757.

You see, I can see a pattern to this,

Ipod nano rip offs = bad.
then the Vx858 rip offs = bad
then the vx747 rip offs = bad
the vx757 rip offs = ???

If you see what I mean

Done the first Battery test on this player

Click the image to open in full size.

I ran the player down completely and recharged using the supplied wall charger.

Total time to reach a full charge was 4 and a half hours.

So I let the player run overnight with the backlight set to on all the time, playing mp3's random, at number 18 volume setting.

The player ran for just over 7 and a half hours before it shut down.
I will do a test now with the backlight off, which is the standard test, but so far not bad at all, better than I thought.
