I ran the player down completely and recharged using the supplied wall charger.

Total time to reach a full charge was 4 and a half hours.

So I let the player run overnight with the backlight set to on all the time, playing mp3's random, at number 18 volume setting.

The player ran for just over 7 and a half hours before it shut down.
I will do a test now with the backlight off, which is the standard test, but so far not bad at all, better than I thought.
After all the adventures you have had with this player I think that I will buy one to my friend... you know to play a little opening it and dealing with software.

I would like to found a upgrade firmware provider for it. I know that rockchip is capable of display cover art... the problem is where to get the apropriate version.

Finally this player doesn't have the Wolfson chip

at the moment the only rockchip player with cover art are the Teclast T50/nationite s:flo, no other player nor update has yet been given to any older players

there were rumours of one last update to the ramos rm970 that would give album art but this has not surfaced as yet

knowing the way these chinese companies work they will never give an older player this ability but just build a new palyer to sell with album art in from the start, why make an older product better when all they want to do is grab more money from you, they aint in this business to make things easy and good for us, they are in it to make money

It is unbelievable that they can't be *rsed to put 2 lines of code in the firmware to do this simple task.

This is EASILY possible on ANY player that can play movies and display pictures.

Yes I tend to agree with this, It think it more likely that someone will hack the BASE.RKW first since the firmware on the RK27xx is much more accessable.

Chinese supporters simply forget past devices... so its with my Onda VX858... to spent their time with their new products.

I don't know how acts Korean manufacturers for instance... or Apple for their infamous iPod Nano.

To be fair to the Chinese, the big brand names often also don't update the firmware for the same reasons, and it's shut down so tight that any modding is out of the question, except with say Sandisk Sansa where they co-operated with the Rockbox community.

I for example have a Philips, 1 firmware update, my partner has a Samsung Z5, 2 firmware updates, - not exactly spectacular support!

The truth is they don't want you to hang on to your old player too long, or make it too good, they want you to the next player instead, so it's really left to us to make the best of our players we can.

About the cover art thing - The Teclast M26 also supports cover art, this is confirmed by the Teclast OEM. Yeah, I know all of the talk about the RM970 supporting cover art. I think that this rumor is because Ramos released/leaked an early photo of the RM970 with a completely different screen shot showing cover art that was photoshopped in. It's too late for the RM970, Ramos has moved on.

About the disposable nature of things - Just the fact that these players have a rechargable battery that cannot be replaced because the player cannot be opened (without possibly damaging the unit) is another example how most manufacturers don't really expect users to keep these units. Hey, they would love to sell you a brand new unit every year instead of replacing your battery. Now, we as consumers, especially the mp4 player enthusiasts that we are, are going to buy the new ones every year anyway because we can't resist the new features, capability, and sex appeal of the newer product.

About the firmware update thing - I'm all with you that it would seem to be not such a big deal to update two lines of code. In a perfect world they would do this. Everytime the firmware is updated a good company has to have it tested thorougly to make sure that something didn't break in the fimware (sometimes just recompiling and linking the firmware can break something if you are not careful). Also, the engineers who worked on the original project may be busy working on some other project (with a nearing deadline) or those engineers may no longer be working for the company (China has a very high rate of engineers changing jobs, more so than the USA).

no, mp3 is fine oe on these new players, as is size, now not restricted to screen size, can be any size (within limits)

also a trick i found out, if you have files ending in "divx" of "xvid" just change the file extension to "avi" and they wil (should) work, no need to convert

newer rockchip player firmware now have 3gp, mpg, asf, wmv support also but i doubt the no brand players will have this yet, maybe in a couple of months when new stocks are introduced
