no, mp3 is fine oe on these new players, as is size, now not restricted to screen size, can be any size (within limits)

also a trick i found out, if you have files ending in "divx" of "xvid" just change the file extension to "avi" and they wil (should) work, no need to convert

newer rockchip player firmware now have 3gp, mpg, asf, wmv support also but i doubt the no brand players will have this yet, maybe in a couple of months when new stocks are introduced
Impressive!!!... thanks for the info makd511

So it has WMV???... is this with WMA as audio codec?
not sure if its with wma codec, not tested it that much
Newer rockchip players now have these codecs in but like i say, tthese no brand clones will either never see them or not for a while, the s:flo has them through an upgrade and the new 4.3" players from onda, ramos and ainol all will have them, plus the ainol v3000 has a remote control and tv out - should be interestingp plus a screen of 800x480!!! and LTPS - cant wait for that one, big but ...

Just tried a firmware RK2706 from this site:-

http://www.qqmp4.net/

Firmware booted up fine, dancing penguins an' all that, just the buttons wouldn't navigate.

So plugged the usb in copy my old firmware back, noticed the firmware partition didn't open up.

They use the sneaky FRK.tag to open the firmware partition, works fine if you just rename rkusb.tag to FRK.tag, just something to watch out for. It's referred to in REGISTER.DAT at the end.

They are getting more creative, just tried another Rk27xx firmware, same site but this time it's yuxtest1.yux  to open the firmware, again I just renamed RKusb.tag to yuxtest1.yux to open up the firmware partition.

Just hope they don't start using chinese characters or we're really stuffed ops:

The idea of being able to safely back the firmware up on these players is going out of the window fast :x

Just found another variant yuxtest2.yux

you are certainly going for it here knob

how many are you trying!!!!

you know, i am not sure how they did this, but some guys over at ramos.net managed to create a mixed firmware from several different version of rm970 firmware, so it had much of the stale 2.10 code along with all the enhancements of later firmwares, when i load this onto my rm970 it tells me its verison 2.10, but it has all the video resume features etc of later firmwres

just a thought and i have not looked into what they did toy achieve this

www.ramos.net is the site and look for 2.10+2.23 posts

thought if we could fig out how they did it we may be able to get some bits into these no brand players

cheers

well knob, some players allow access to the hidden partition via holding a certain key down, like the rm970 can and a couple of the imitation rm970 players can also

so this may be a method to try if the tag files wont work

googling the YUX thing reveals some links on mydigit site and apparenty used by some new Hacha players

i think there will always be some way to get at the files, and it may be on a per player basis, or players type, like the rm970 and ones made in that style

and the tweezers along the memory chip is always our last resort as this opens the hidden partition also, raz was doing this with the s:flo until we found the tag file reference in the firmware

Yes, i've looked at every Rk27xx firmware on http://www.qqmp4.net/

I found you can pretty much mix around everything and the player will still boot up, but you can't get much in the way of extra functionality, all I have able to do so far was move the text on the player by swapping the CWIDTH16.BIN with the CWIDTH24.BIN renamed to CWIDTH16.BIN

The one to crack is BASE.RKW for extra functionality, problem is if you play with that the slightest, then the player doesn't boot up, there is some checking going on and it takes place within BASE.RKW itself.

I've swopped around REGISTER.DAT and the codecs, no problems, if you swap BMP0.BIN around the player will still boot up, but of course all the pictures are messed up and in the wrong place

Hi,
Iīm an owner of a VX747 Clone. It looks like this one:
Click the image to open in full size.
from KINGZON. Display is 3" with real 8GB flash and touchscreen. firmware is RK27SDK v1.2, Hardware ID 080422.
The gamepad icon on the desktop is named calendar and after a click on it there is only a menu to select a stop watch

Iīve played arround with some other firmware but nothing works. The player didnīt start and the screen was white. But with help of this forum I could recover every time back to my backup firmware
The only one working is the VX747 firmware from the download location. It looks like my firmware and itīs working (http://www.mympxplayer.org/rockchip-...706-df897.html)

Is there a way to add new codecīs to play mpg files?
I have tried to copy extracted files from another firmware to my player (Register.dat, rk_mpeg0.out, rk_mpeg2.out or rk_mpeg4.out) but the player did not start after a reset.

... btw, great forum with a great community !

Ango,

I'm afraid that you are stuck with the file formats that come with that player. While there are ways to change background themes and some other stuff, the file formats that the player supports are part of the actual firmware itself. This can only be changed by the manufacturer because they have the source code for the firmware.

unfortunately just adding the codec files is no good, the BASE file, or core firmware code needs to reference them and pull them in to the main firmware for use, so it will not recognise them at all without this

we will have to hope that later batches of these player include a newer firmware

i did ask tinydeal about updates!!!, they were adamant that none of their players would recieve updates, which is pretty much what i expected

this is a shame as the base rockchip firmware has now added several new movie formats, audio and video resume and even game emulation and with these cheap, one shot players, we will never see these updates

in nfact, actually, try load a game rom, go to explorer and select the file and see if it works, i know on the s:flo that no icon is present for games, but it will work if you select the game file direct - may be worth a shot

well my fake onda vx747 rockchip player i got from tinydeal has decided to commit suicide

now i bought this player purely to test and see the quality of these cheap no-name players, but my daughter kinda adopted this thing and as such i have done nothing with it in terms of modding, hacking, taking apart etc

so basically through no reason at all its just gone and lost the firmware partition .. its just gone, wont boot up now, recognise the main memory only

now this players was faulty from the start, earphone jack knacked, i was gonna fix it but my daughter mainly uses it with the speaker so i did not bother

anyway, i am now gonna do some recovery

this is not good, and i am just about ready to do my review on this player, i know its been a while but i never do reviews until i have had a player for a good while, just in case things go wrong down the line and i don't like to recommend unless i am totally sure, needles to say i will not be giving this player a glowing report

anyway, let you all know how i get on

cheap junk!!!
