first I have a few pics that may help

I have had this a few months but have put it up because I became frustrated with. now that I have calmed down I wish to explore my options with this player. which has lead me here.

1) are there any updates/upgrades that I can do to this player. the biggest problem I have with this thing is the menu system. its a pain to get anywhere. I see other players that have this exact same form factor and a very different menu system. is this something I can update?

2) I have a psp. I have ripped several movies to mp4s to watch on the psp. now I have tried to convert these to .amv with the conversion tool and all i get when I push go is and error. I dont kow what verson of the tool i have but the help file says I can convert mpeg1, mpeg2 and windows media. so my question is: is there a version of the tool that will let me convert my mp4's to amv's without to much fuss?

if I have not included enough information, please let me know. I will be happy to get whatever information you may need.

Hi, welcome to the board. In answer to your first question, do NOT upgrade your firmware. There are too many different firmware specifically designed for different players so the chances of getting the right one is unlikely.
You will most likely brick your player.

As far as the second question, I highly recommend you follow the instructions posted here: How To: Removing a Memory Hack
Format errors with AMV files are generally the result of a hacked player. The memory shows more than what there really is. When you copy files to the player, everything that fits into the real memory will play. Anything over that is a ghost file that doesn't really exist.

thanks for getting back to me.

the answer to the first question is .. well disappointing. but on we go

heres the thing, i dont think I have a hacked player as I have loaded close 4 bg of mp3s and never had a problme playing them. in the time I was using this player, I was listening to it 8 + hours a day for weeks.. in that time Im certain I would have had trouble with trying to play something that was not really there.

the error I was having was not on the player but the software tool itself.

Hi rontopia,

I agree with booboo773 on not trying to upgrade the firmware on your player. All you need to do is browse the "Dead Players" section of the forum to see what I mean. The time and hassels to recover a dead player from flashing an incompatible firmware is not worth it as looking at the posts in the "Dead Players" section of the firmware, you'll see what I mean.

I haven't tried converting .mp4 files to .AMV directly before so if you're having problems, I would say that the MP3 Player Utilities probably isn't able to convert them to .AMV properly. You might have more success converting the .MP4 files to .AVI firstly then converting them to .AMV. Annoying I know, but unfortunately the MP3 Player Utilities isn't all that advanced.

What version of the MP3 Player Utilities are you using? Try a different or later version if you can to see if that helps.

Also, try using this tool instead to see if that is better at converting to .AMV video files for you --> Bytessence MPxConverter (Windows).

lets start over..

lets forget the mp4 files and lets say I just want to rip a dvd to and avi format so that I can convert it. is there a tool for that?

or a tool that can convert a dvd to amv.. I know that is not likely but I thoguth I would ask.

Hi, there are many different converters. Personally, I have used Magic DVD Ripper and CloneDVD Mobile. Both cost money, but they have free trial versions so you can try them to see if you like them. I really like CloneDVD the best, because there are more options with it.
Not sure about free converters or a tool that can convert straight to AMV.
