Default It's worth the trouble?

I bought last year a MP4 for my wife and the firmware is of 2006. Sometimes the player is slow when navigating through the music list and I can't make it work in my linux box. I tried the "Update firmware" option in the menu, but it doesn't work at all (of course, connected to a PC).

I have seen that many people fail to upgrade and end with a blank screen.

So, based in your experience do you think It would be a good idea to try to upgrade it manually?

Thank you

Not if it's working.

Backup the firmware first, always.
