New makeover for MyMPxPlayer.org

Hi everyone,

I am delighted to announce that in the next few months, MyMPxPlayer.org is going to have a make over!

This means:

1. A brand new fast dedicated server

2. New domain name

3. New theme and layout for the site

4. New forum

I'm going to go all out to upgrade MyMPxplayer.org.

The site will be coming to it's three years old birthday next week and so it's due for a well needed makeover.

How much is this going to cost? Well, quite a bit actually. Here is a summarised breakdown:

* US$2,500 per year for the new dedicated server
* US$1,500 for the site design, template, theme and logo (yeh, new logo!)
* US$180 for the vBulletin forum software
* US$200 for the content management and portal page

But don't worry, MyMPxplayer.org will always remain FREE for everyone to use and access. We won't charge for anything, haven't yet and don't plan to. If you do have a moment though take a look here --> Ways you can support MyMPxPlayer.org.

Hope this is exciting new for everyone and once again, appreciate eveyone's input and to those who help with forum posts and contribute to the site. This site wouldn't have been so popular if it weren't for your contribution so this is my way of saying "thank you" to you all.

Congratulations on the 3 years! :) And the new template will be a good change too, but wow does it really cost 1.5 grand?

There is an import script for vBulletin which is suppose to be able to import all the data from this existing database into it. But since this is a modified version of phpBB, it may not import everything. I am going to do some testing to see if it works beforehand.....

LOL!
I might get those 'apples' changed as well :)

A simple question, hope you don't get it in a wrong way :)

¿Why you go with commercial software (vBulletin, CMS etc) when there is free open-source alternatives of the same quality and level of support? The server is OK, but I think it's too much money specially for the template, theme and stuff...

BTW... http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/2193/birthdaytf2.gif MyMPxPlayer!

Hi sndestroy,

Not at all.
Reason why I've decided to go away from Open Source because with Commerical products, support is paid into it. With open source products, it's generally posting in the forum for support because the product isn't paid, they are not obligated to provide any service level agreement for support.

Also, this forum runs a modified of the open source forum phpBB and it has been hacked many times already. All you have to do is a Google search for "phpBB hacks" or "phpbb vulnerabilities" and you'll see what I mean. There are YouTube videos showing you how to hack a phpBB forum as well! I've been through that already and don't want to put everyone through this.

vBulletin has been highly recommended everywhere and with the site growing so much, I thought it's time to invest into the site.

The guys that are going to build the theme and template have some very impressive work and a nice portfolio. Take a look here --> http://indiqo.eu - these are the guys who are going to build the new site template.

sndestroy 20th Jan 2009 2:54 pm

That makes sense.

From time to time I visit some local sites based on vBulletin as well, and I can attest to the rock-solid qualities of it. It's a very good choice of forum software... i still feel that the template/theme is a bit overpriced, but that's a personal view only.

... hmmm... http://indiqo.eu looks a lot similar to a local studio, http://godlikestudio.com :P

if you need any graphics made contact me, i'll do em free of charge

WIZARD 25th Jan 2009 2:53 am

If I hadn't some problems with my budjet
I would even make a donation!

admin 25th Jan 2009 5:17 am

Thanks kn100,

This is a full theme for Subdreamer as well as the vBulletin forum integration. This also includes logo work as well. MyMPxPlayer.org deserves an upgrade. I've tried some 'cheaper' option but like the saying goes, "you get what you pay for" and it's too difficult dealing with it all. Indiqo has an impressive portfolio.

Uhh... You'll want cpanel hosting.. and 1500 dollars for the web design? Thats terrible lol.. Depends what you are getting though i guess... Who are you getting to do it? I'm really curious..
My brother used to own a web design company... http://www.ockiindustries.com.au/. But he closed it down.. :/ He would probably do it cheaper too.. Like $900 or probably less for a professional site.. Pff and I do it free for friends.. xD

What content management would the site be using? Joomla? Cause that would be easy, and you could probably do it mostly yourself with a lot of effort. Then again, you do want it to be professional, so that might be a bit difficult. XP

Also, why are you getting vbulletin? phpbb3 is ALOT better.

If you get cpanel hosting it gives you phpbb3 and all the popular content management systems/forums + more... So I recommend you go with it.. >.<

Are you buying a whole dedicated server? Or just getting hosting?
