Vote: New domain name for MyMPxPlayer.org
 

With the announcement that MyMPxPlayer.org is going to get a make over (New makeover for MyMPxPlayer.org), I have decided to also give the site a NEW DOMAIN name.

Why a new domain name?
Given the massive amount of modifications I've made to this site, the URL rewrites, that Google has indexed this site a lot and I will be switch over to a new forum software, it would not copy all URL's across so links would be broken.

So, I've decided to still keep MyMPxPlayer.org around but for archive purposes and start new posts on the new site instead. This keeps all the links intact.

With that said, I would like ask what domain name you think I should use for the new site?

The two I have reserved are:

• MyMPxPlayer2.org
• MyMPxPlayer2.com
• MP4MPX.org
• MP4MPX.com
• MyMPx.org (MyMPx.com is already taken though)

So, take and vote and tell me which you prefer.
You can have two votes you want.
Would realy like your opinions on this.
Perhaps another domain name instead if you don't like the ones I've chosen?

I would have liked it to be MyMpx.org like a shortened version of MyMPxDownloads.com , much easier for folks to remember, but I suppose thats already taken?

I agree.
That was the orignial intention.
However, because MyMPx.com was taken, I didn't go ahead with it. I wanted both MyMPx.com and MyMPx.org as well in case people get confused and type in the wrong one.

I've taken MyMPx.org anyway now so will add that to the vote list.

Hi everyone,

While the majority of the votes are going towards MyMPx.org - the MyMPx.com domain is already taken and registered with someone else.

I'm just worried that if we go with it, it may cause confusion between the two domains. However, MyMPx.com only has a holding page so it shouldn't be too bad. I'll see if I can get them to sell that domain to us :)

so i would say

www.mpxhelp.com
www.mp4help.com

just a few ideas ... again

i like mp4help because it says what this site is all about, and roles off the tongue nicely,

Yea i think mympx sounds the best, but I also like the sound of mp4help as its kinda saying mp4 help, and also kinda saying mp[x] 4 help

I think that MPxhelp.org is pretty good, but prefer MyMPx.org for the following reason: for people it's easy to asocciate mympxplayer.org -> mympx.org, and the change will be natural, smooth and easy to remmember too.

While MPxhelp.org would be nice, people could get a bit confused with the name change :P ...



admin, you plan to leave the current forum read-only, right?

Yes, I plan to keep the current forum as it is but read only.
If all goes well, I will be able to import everything from this forum into the new vBulletin forum (fingers cross).

This should also include user accounts as well.

I've noticed that 7 votes are for "None of the Above".

heh. MyMPx.org is probably the best if you aim to make it shorter. However the player part would be handy too.
I've been here a few years ago looking for a firmware for my Motorola MPx200 phone and i remember i was confused by the lack of any phone information.
I agree that the domain name would be easier to remember due to shrinking it tho.

MyMpx.org is the best of these name,is short and nice :D

Hi willpluck2,

The main reason why the domain name change is two fold. Firstly, we needed to upgrade the site as the existing content management system that runs MyMPxPlayer.org is old and has been hacked a few times already. Secondly, as this site has a lot of indexed pages and customised URL's, if we kept the same name but switch systems, we won't maintain the URLs so valuable information already indexed by search engines will be broken.

So, if I went for a different domain name instead (but keep the existing MyMpxPlayer.org but make it read only), that will give me the best of both worlds. All the URL's indexed will still existing and the new domain name with the new content management system will live on a new server with new URL's.

when will the new site be ready? and what domain did you chose?

It's still in beta as I'm still getting some redesign done as well has making more changes.

I haven't officially told anyone about http://mympx.org yet as it's still not complete.

Don't post anything there though as there is a good chance that it will get deleted during the import from MyMPxPlayer.org to the new site.

Also, there are still some configuration changes to do, such as ranks and memberships....

for some reason it wont let you have img tags in your sig
