My Rockchip Player, what posibilities does it have?
Hiho,
today my MP5 Player reached my home. I bought it on ebay, about 30€ all incl. with 8GB i thought it was worth a try. So this is my player: http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7631/770qxy.th.jpg I also got a link to the sellers online shop: Link I tested the player, and it was just as i thought, he could do a lot of things that were promised, but after all it's just a very cheap player, bad translation, less function (some useles functions) and so on, but all in all for that money ok. I realized that i got an Rockchip player, and i heard you could change / update the firmware with those, even if the reseller doesn't provide any other firmware... So i opened the player, and found the rockchip: "RK2705" (quite but not completely sure) long talk, small question: what do you know, what i could to with this player? in terms of upgrading / tweaking / patching / changing and so on... sry if i didn't search for any threads with this subject, but i just don't know how to start, and whether you can use firmware from one player with another and such things... that's all for now greets bewzta PS: i hope i didn't write to much :-/ |
There are no upgrades for unbranded players, but you can mod them, backup your firmware first, just to be safe:-

Re: My Rockchip Player, what posibilities does it have?
so it is not as if you could exchange the firmware between different (similar) rockchip players?
perhaps another reseller has new firmware? possible or not? ok I'll have a look on firmware modding tomorrow another question is, where can i find in detail which codecs /videos my player/chip does play (up to what bitrate ...) i don't feel like testing for hours... |
no, not interchangable
though players may look the same thay are open designs in china meaning any factory can put them together using different internal hardware there will be no specifics as to what the player can do as the codecs are constantly changoing by rockchip so who knows at what point your was put together but generla rule is do not go too high, it states no conversion etc but that is bull i uis avi xvid at screen res with rate of 512 and audio on mp3 with rate of 96 - any higher and you may experience problems, does not support packed bitstream files or mp4 files FLV from youtube should work depending on when you player was produced other files types are mention in relation to these types of players but their support is ify to say the least |
Re: My Rockchip Player, what posibilities does it have?
Most of the DIVX videos I've tried have worked except for the one video I've got that's like 1000x566...but even the specs state it won't support that. My one MP4 format video I tried did not work...I'm not sure as to exactly what it doesn't like about it.
I played a q10 ogg (~500kbps) with no problem. All the MP3's I've tried have worked. All my FLACs have worked. AAC/Mp4/M4a works...however, you CANNOT have the file in the mp4/m4a container (at least on my unbranded player). It treats all .mp4 files as video, so audio files have to be a raw AAC stream (tools on the internet will extract the AAC stream from it. These cheap players are quite capable. My last player was a 30gig Ipod with Rockbox that couldn't handle q10 ogg or AAC all that well...but it handled Musepack, which is what 98% of my lossy is in. |

There is a small chance that FW from other player may work on this player. For instance screen driver is mostly compatible, flash memory is also compatible, there may be problems with keyboard and other unpredictable isseus but there is a chance.
For example, I have pentagram vanquish r touch (polish RK260x player) which has the same hardware like Teclast C260, the firmware works and even it became even much more functional after the upgrade. Though, there is always a huge chance that you will kill your player, and without backup firmware you are hopeless (even with the firmware the player may keep hanging and it wont be recognized by the PC usb port, so be careful - I once killed my player to such extent but after a little play with scissors on the main-board under the metal case I managed to reset flash memory) |
