New-style iPod Nano clones
A quick eBay search found this. Sorry, the auction is in italian; what it says is that this is a model with NEW FUNCTIONS!!!11, which basically seems to be an accelerometer that lets it do ipod-style image orientation and shuffle playback stuff when it's shaken (I really hope the accelerometer can be disabled; I don't want the thing to start shuffling my carefully selected playlist because it bounced in my pocket) and, more importantly, a touch-sensitive pad like the one on real iPods - not the four-way clicky button common to knockoffs.
The player itself is here in Italy, and is apparently pre-tested, so I wouldn't risk buying a hacked player - and if I did get one I could return it without lengthy and expensive international shipping procedures. I have a few questions before I consider actually buying it, though. 1) I like to listen to my music jumping all over the place. Say, three songs from author 1, then two from author 2, et cetera. This makes it vital to have an on-the-fly playlist creation feature, where I select songs in the artists menu and it queues them to the playlist (think Rio Karma- or Creative Zen-style). Can I expect this player to have this? 2) does it support Ogg? The auction says it supports (copypaste) "Mp3, Wma, MP1, MP2, WMV, ASF, WAV , AVI, MOV, QT, MPEG I/II LAYER 2/3 8-448 KBPS"; however, I've seen plenty of auctions that forget to list not-widely-known formats such as Ogg or AAC, and all generic chinese players I've seen in the last few years support Ogg, so I hope it does. 3) what sort of battery life can I expect playing only music (I've absolutely no use whatsoever for picture or video playback)? 4) lastly, is there any good reason why I might not want to buy this? Thanks. :) |
