On/Off switch & video help Mp4 player

Pls can someone help me?

I bought this:
NEW 16GB 16G 3.0" Touch Screen MP3 MP4 Player Camera Z on eBay (end time 04-Jan-10 10:14:22 GMT)

If it stays on standby the whole time then I can press the on button and it's OK - if it powers off properly the only way to turn it back on is by plugging in the charger or the usb lead into the PC.

I got sent a replacement - exactly the same

Now reading all this stuff - dont know if it is a proper 16gb player and also having trouble with getting avi files to play.
(It's got an AVI file (Xvid) on it that plays lovely BTW)

BTW I'm not that technical - so go easy on me please
