How Format 16gb Nano style MP4 player to its real memory ?
Dear All,
I have 16gb MP4 player 4th Gen (Nano style player). The real memory I know is not 16gb, how can format it to its real memory ? Please reply. Thanks V. |
use the revised ChkDsk method
I had a similar MP4 player which was claimed by the seller to be 16 GB but in reality was only 2 GB. I used this method http://mympx.org/forum/support-how/4...d-revised.html . In my hands it worked perfectly well and now the player is 2GB and error free according to h2testw scanning. It might not work on all players, but on the one I bought from urqiqiexpress on Ebay. When I just checked on Ebay, it says "no longer a registered user", so most likely the change name and appear as a "new business".

The chkflsh method worked OK with slight modification, it does not need the small extra partition, indeed this is what confuses some versions of this hack.
The pictures of the Mp3 player off of ebay (safe2star) are here to show the fake 16G sticker and the actual 2Gb Samsung chip inside! I am now off to Paypal to lodge a claim for most of my money back! ian :p |
ps
thank you to this site and its owners for all the help/info I would never have got any of these mp3 players working The one above was "dead" or so it seemed, it was in reality a combination of dead battery not charged because the USB cable was defective. New USB cable and bobs your uncle! Applied the chkflsh method and reformatted to a usable 1.84Gb mp3 player instead of a useless fake 16Gb one. ian ps claim duly filed with Paypal for a 50% refund, feels better even if I dont get the money back! |
I've just bought one of those, which lead me to this forum due to corrupted files....
I'll try the Chkflsh method and report back... |
If its the same as in the pics off of ebay its a 2Gb for defo as the chip is the Samsung chip as identified on the site
but it comes out at 1.84Gb because it copies the firmware into it about 250Mb as far as I can see ian |
Just tried to report this problem to ebay (as no doubt many others have done) and you they just take no notice, they even have peeps on their discussion boards who DEFEND these frauds!
Unbelievable! ian |

Yes this was from eBay, I have just reported it to the seller to see if he will do anything about it...
It is 16GigaBITS. I got mine to 1886Mbytes and it tests all ok. Given the Sector numbers it looks like you should be able to get it to 1932 if you could get the slider on ChkFlsh to go there unfortunately the small tick has been set too small and I couldn't be bothered to sit there for hours with my finger on the left arrow key! Pics attached. Thanks Simon |
SO angry with ebay
but happy with the help of this forum have at least got a usable player or two ian |
There is no point getting angry with eBay, its not their fault. They are only there to make money (as is every business). I doubt it is even down to the sellers as I doubt most of them have the expertise to hack the players, it is down to the manufacturers.
I would imagine that the sellers have no comeback on the manufacturers either! Mind you for what I paid for mine, I am happy with it at 2Gb, I have complained though as it is not as advertised. (I only paid the cost of 10 litres of petrol and that included postage from Hong Kong!) Simon |
I have opened a complaint to the TID in HK about ebay and how they are letting this continue despite buyers complaints. All the sellers mentioned continue to sell these hacked players and you can't tell me that neither ebay nor the sellers are aware of it.
enquiry@tid.gov.hk If you want to do the same They will then be aware that there is a problem If nobody complains then there is no problem ian |
Good news is that I loaded over 400 tracks and 1.6 GB onto said device and no probs so far
will let you know how rest of tests go thanks ian ps seller safe2star refunded the full price |
I have just requested a return of my player. Not only is it only 2Gb, not 16 as advertised but the sound quality is terrible!
My old 1Gb ChiPod sounds much better even when tested withthe exact same track. (I use Shure headphones, not the bundled crap) |
Headphones need to be 320 Ohm same as ipod otherwise low imp phones will incur come distortion, mine sounded OK.

eBay.co.uk Guides - BEWARE of FAKE 128GB 256GB USB Flash Drives on eBay So why are they still listing on there? Good to know you are not legally obliged to post fake stuff back anyway. ian |
Well both my Shure E2C's and my Shure SE110 earphones have impedances of around 16 - 26 ohms and sound fantastic on every iPod, ChiPod and any audio device I have ever plugged them into, so I know there is nothing wrong with them.
|
I was not saying there was anything wrong with your earphones, its just an effect that is quite common with impedance mismatch, it occurs even with expensive equipment. It could also be as you say that the sound is actually distorted from the player itself, its quite possible there is a defect in the audio output. Sorry if it seemed I was casting aspersions on your equipment, I was not.
Its also possible my (ageing) lugholes are not as discerning as yours! One unfortunate side effect of this whole affair is that now I look at many adverts for things with deep suspicion and feel like asking sellers "is it genuine and can you prove it?" when I see ads for things like 128GB Flash memory and huge capacity hard drives! |
