Default Rockchip firmware update utility

Contrary to other information I have seen on these forums, there seems to be only one universal firmware updater for all Rockchip players. I got the firmware update utility on the disk that came with the Titan us-405, and even though it has a slightly different name to the Rockchip update utility downloadable from the internet, it turns out that it's the same thing. I have seen in another post the claim that each Rockchip device is paired with it's own updater software. Also it is easy to get into the firmware update mode on a Rockchip device: Contrary to other instructions I have read in other posts on this site, the simplest method is to hold down the "play" button (not the menu button), with the slide switch in the "off" position, and plug in the USB cable. In my case , with windows XP, I got the found new hardware alert, and it was simply a matter of letting XP install the driver for the new hardware.Remember, do not release the play button until the device is detected.Don't even bother with the upgrade software option in the settings>system menu on the device.I have tried this and I could never get it to work. The USB device installed is simply identified as Rockchip USB device. This is analogous to the ADFU(Actions Device Firmware Update) device used for Actions players.
Once the Rockchip player is connected in this way,it is automatically detected by the updater (the .rfw firmware file has to be loaded first of course). Both my Titan US-405 and the Kaser Mambo Cam Flix can be upgraded with this method.Unfortunately, it seems that Kaser, which gives me the impression of being a shady fly by night company, does not supply the firmware on the cd that comes with their product, nor do they supply a printed manual.,unlike Titan, which generally supplies a printed manual in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and the device firmware as a .rfw file. Nevertheless I have had the Camflix for some two months now, and aside from having to contend with a defective USB cable(which the seller replaced at no charge: the USB cable and the earphones supplied with the device should be dumped ; they are cheap looking and fail very quickly.), the device works flawlessly.
The Camflix I have found seems to be an oem device that is sold by at least three different companies under different names, with customized firmware and logo for each vendor. The device is sold as the Titan US-071, the Kaser Mambo Cam Flix, and apparently in Brazil only, the Powerpack MF-CA242.There is very little information on the internet available in English concerning this product, so I assume it's not available on the US or Canadian markets, but is sold in Latin America and the Caribbean only.
