Chuwi J4 Android Player from JTShopOnline

I got the Chuwi J4 player from JTShopOnline and posted a question about it here: How to install apk apps/games on Chuwi J4 player from JTShopOnline? : Chuwi - As you can see the reply from JTShop was that the player runs a 'light' version of Android and since it doesn't have WIFI either, I can't download it from Android Marketplace.

I've tried about 10 different .apk files ranging from games to apps and none have worked. I'll try more and see what I can come up with. Abit of a pity because right now it's almost the same as an MP4 player but with a larger screen. I was hoping I could get additional apps and games onto it or at least customise it abit but it's proving to be rather difficult.

well in china they have a pc app that accompanies the installation of APK, not sure if you got a cd or anything, but you should be able to install APK manually if the settings is ticked in the settings
im not sure what "lite" version means, its certainly cut down to eliminate all the web/wifi related stuff but its all the same engine underneath, what actually happens when you try to install apps? - wifi really is best as its not about web browsing its all about making it as easy as possible to install additional things, even if you never browse the web

i have asked a user who has this player how and if they can install apps

this is chinese review and info on player, part way down you will see the android section and the PC app they use to manage apps

Strange. According to the screen shot it has the app installer, at top left.

I understand that Chinese users don't use Android market anyway.

Thanks guys for replying and helping.

I've finally put up some photos of the Chuwi J4 player from JTShopOnline here: Review: Chuwi J4 Android Player from JTShopOnline

As you can see from the screenshots, there isn't an "APKAppInstaller" on any of the menu items...... Is it something I need to install manually?

You shouldn't need the APKAppInstaller to install apps as long as you have some sort of file browser or manager.
I good thing to install is "taskiller" then you can see what is running in the background, then kill them before running a more demanding app.

We can't expect these less powerful devices to run every app, mine doesn't run everything and many apps are laggy, but they are certainly a step up from the regular MP4.

Biggest problem with android for me is the battery life is poor for a pocket device.

I would like to see a "lite" version of android just for smart PMP's with a small screen size of 3" to 4" and if these are really to replace the MP4 we need a battery life of around 8-10 hours.

A removable phone type battery would be nice too! you can get all this with phones why not a smart PMP?

bsttery life is improving but its down to the hardware as well as software, 2.3 is meant to be better and tabs using renesses chips and the bew rk2919 are also getting long battery life too, so its there but on thee budget and smaller models it probably a mix of cheaper hardware and stuff

smart PMP seem o be dwindling in china now as they are adding wifi to all their previous smart pmp models, like this J4, it now has wifi and new models are coming in at really low 199yuan prices complete with wifi and a newer

knob, some new pmp using the 2816 are now on market with supposedly boosted software 3D support, making playing some apps and games a possibility - take that with pinch of salt :) - i think the window N3 is the model i saw

I tried the file browser as well but the 10 or so apps/games I got didn't work.
Someone did reply to my post here: How to install apk apps/games on Chuwi J4 player from JTShopOnline? : Chuwi and suggested some apps to try so I'll try downloading them and see how it goes......

I haven't fully tested the player's battery - just trying to find time to be available 8 hours to check on the player. Might do a full charge and have it turned on while at work :)

This player is a 'light' version of Android. It doesn't come with wifi so that's power saving not having wifi. I actually wish it did have wifi as it's so convenient to have access to the internet.

Here's the pictures of the apps in the player:

well i asked on my otyher form and a user, liquidN has this and has installed many apps, many, as said wont work but they are adding them

Binh@MyMPx 9th Jul 2011 6:14 pm

Makd511, can you send me the URL of the forum post about that player?

I just this minute found out how to switch it to use the Android OS instead of the default MP4 System.
Androia OS has a completely different layout and set of icons and apps. I did find the APKInstaller now so will get onto putting some apps on there to see which works which doesn't.

I will post more information shortly.

wifi really is best as its not about web browsing its all about making it as easy as possible to install additional things, even if you never browse the web
