Spider Repellant?
 

Ok guys, this seriously does not fit in any catergories except here.

Summer is coming, and i'll be going for a 2 month holiday back home.
The thing is, my car is currently parked in a sheltered carpark. But there are lots of spiders and bugs and whatever you can imagine.

Just 1 week ago, a brown spider crawled into the dashboard airvent while we were driving.. OMG.. it's not those small tiny spiders, but those big fat juicy brown spiders (yummy). i reckon it's about 6cm in diameter from leg to leg.
And 2 nights ago while getting supper, it crawled onto the window. i swiped it out and killed it. My girl hates all these creepy crawlies.

Now, since the car is going to be parked for 2 months with no usage, i won't be surprised if it turns out to be some spider's nest of sorts when we get back.

What are the ways to prevent these creepy crawlies?
I need some kind of repellant to leave in the car which would last about 1-2 months.

Any suggestions and ideas would be greatly appreciated! Even dumb ones, for the laugh.. :lol:

lattesurf, I have no love for spiders myself especially the nasties that live in your part of the world. I suggest you spray your car, dash, vents, nooks and crannys with Bagon Surface Spray which leaves a residual pesticide generally good for a couple of months.

Can you park it in one of those storage places instead?

Spray would work, but I'm not sure about the residue it will leave in your car after a couple of months though. You might have to end up cleaning the insides....

lol. you should get help to overcome arachnafobia, you know it is not justified against the size and danger of those european spiders? And they are so usefull to mankind clearing your surroundings from bugs! Anyway, if the parking isn't heated, and your car goes below zero degrees Celsius for some time, the spiders would die?
EDIT: just remembered, they have sticky plastic sheets (about 20x20 cm), used in indoor gardening, with glue on both sides. Any insect sitting on or walking over it gets stuck and can't move anymore, thus dies. They are bright yellow mostly, to attract insects. Place a couple of those in the car, on the floor, for the windows.

Kinda reluctant about spraying, it might do something to the dash over the 2 months..

And there is no proper garage at my place. The lots i'm parking now are the "best", well at least covered from the rain and horrible sun. Those car garage storage companies charges money (something like $60/week), and i guess i'll just have to give them a pass.

it's summer over in australia now, and it'll be the peak of summer in about a month's time. Which means all the bugs and spiders and crap will be all over the place.

Maybe i shall glaze an A4 paper with contact glue and leave it in the car..

But for the moment i think i'll stick to mothballs and lemon/citrus air fresheners. That's what they say in yahoo answers, spiders hate citrus stuff and they taste with their legs?

Sell your car and come to NZ for a holiday. We only have daddy-long-legs in the general home so they're harmless.

Binh, might consider it in the near future. But for the moment, this car was bought at way below market price and probably won't have another at this kinda price again.

Daddy-longlegs are still alright, though i like to catch and pluck their legs off.. :lol:

Spiders hatching out while you're away would be terrible. They might jumpstart the car and drive away! :lol:
The spray might still be lingering in the airducts when you drive it and then you'd be inhaling it, so I wouldn't go crazy with the spray. Don't have an alternative plan though as I don't have that problem here.
Also, there may not be spiders in NZ, but I remember that there was a big problems with Kea's in the South Island. They had a taste for rubber and windshield weatherstripping! How do you defend against that?!

Ahhh... i just wanna go home..

i've decided to leave a whole bottle of moth balls in the car. i think that would be enough to take out a human if he/she were to sleep in the car overnight.. haha.. :lol:

But to the daring spiders who dare to venture into the car, they'll be dead if i see 'em. hoho..

OK! An update from the spider problem!

i've just arrived back in Adelaide yesterday, reconnected the car battery, checked all the fluids (amazingly all full, no leaks).

Cranked twice and unable to start.

So i decided to choke the engine a couple of times, and on the third attempt, the engine rev-ed.. Woo Hoo.. Pretty good for a car that has not been started for more than 2 months.

Now back to the topic.. Lotsa spider webs all around the car! As i walked to the car, there were webs between the car door/wheels to the side pillars. yucks!! i'm still not very sure if there are any spiders living inside the car, seems that there are no webs within the car itself. Which at the moment seems good news.

As mentioned, the car is like completely covered with dust and webs. It could do with a good wash! :D

So i'll be monitoring the car for any spider signs. :lol:
