Default number of images?


hi.
so i wanted to start skinning for my new player.

errm but as i open the firmware and want to modify it,
i can see how many pictures every animation has.

for example my boot animation hast 8 pics.
called B01 to B08.
is it important to keep it 8 pictures?
and is it important to keep the names?

becaus i opened an other firmware and it had
14 pictures and the names Boot01 to Boot14.

but because this was a firmware for another player, im not sure
if i perhaps even could kill the player.

ok i just thought about it...
i think i cant add more images then there are already,
i can only overwrite.
and i cant change the names because if i import, he only changes the pic,
right?

Hi ,

Skinning your player is great. Takes sometime though, but worth it in the end.

To answer your questions:

1. File name of the .bmp file is not important as you just 'import' into the firmware using the s1res.exe tool.

2. At the moment, you can't change how many images are in the startup and end sequences. You will have to use what is there.


It it best to skin YOUR firmware and then upload it back into your player rather than using someone else's firmware. Since buttons configurations, menu items etc... are different, other player's firmware might not work and could DAMAGE your player too.

yeh thx, thats what i already thought of.
but somehow that makes sharing created themes much harder :/

would be nice, if ther would be a standard,
or at least a tool to "split" a few images for a special firmware

I suggest the best way to share themes is to create a TEMPLATE. That way, people can modify it to their liking. Remember that there are players with 1.2" and 1.5" and 1.8" screens. Not to mention the various menu items as well - some have games, some don't. So you can't just make 'one' theme and expect it to work on all players given the different screen sizes and main menu items.

I created a startup and shutdown screen for the 1.5" screen players here: http://www.mympxplayer.com/viewtopic.php?t=10. It has the Photoshop file too so people can modify it to have their own menu items.

I would recommend to anything making a theme to try to include a photoshop file or original source template so that people can change it to match the items on their menu. But then again, u are also left with differing screen sizes too....

hmm yeh thats true,
but its hard to make a menu template for "several" players.
specially i think my player has a "strange" main menu.
every part exists out of 3 images.

left image (only color)
center image (the animation)
right image (i think its the left image again)

:/
well ill try,
then im gonna create a little template from scratch

Oh, I see. I have a player that has the main menu in parts too. It's abit of work to get the skinning done right, but it's worth it.

I took the easy step and skinned one of my other players which only a single .bmp file but had to make about 4 animation sequences.
