quick question for you all...

since a lot of the BMPs from the radio are shared with the music player screen, i decided that i had to tackle it as well. here are the first results:

i am not quite sure what to think of it yet and don't know if i should spend (waste?) any more time on it. what do you all think?

as there is no way to change the placement of certain items on the screen (yet), i can only replace or repurpose space for other things.

i haven't tried this out on my player yet, but will do so tomorrow.

any comments?

well... i am doing more than just a theme for the menu screens (the static and dynamic menu screens).

i am trying to skin everything (which is about 250+ images).

i don't have the radio files as a PSD yet (i use fireworks), but i could send you the BMPs. unfortunately, since the radio and the music player share some of the same images, replacing the radio will kind of screw up your music player. this is why i was holding off on posting. i want to get the radio and music screens done first!

well, what do you think of it so far?

this may not work 1-to-1 for you (depending on your player). from what i have heard, it seems that there are players with the same firware version which have the battery at the bottom!

at the moment, there isn't a way to make these kinds of changes to the layout. so, if your player has certain elements in a different place, you will need to update for your screen.

as soon as i am done and have tested this, i will post the PSDs.

looks awesome! I am working on making a custom skin for mine...what player do you have? I like your layout a lot better I think! Wish I could use it! hehe.

I just used the skin for the main menu from here to look like the real iPod menu, and like the idea of your FM player post too!

I may use it to edit my own, as you said the layouts seem to be slightly diff for some version!

Doing a fantastic job there.
The only thing that 'stumped' me was that I couldn't change the position of the images. I also couldn't reskin everything either :( Only certain parts of the music playing screen I could reskin as the others didn't appear in the s1res tool. I haven't been able to find a way around it unfort :( If someone does, let me know.

Would be great to reskin EVERYTHING on the screen during music playing etc.... At present, I can only reskin parts of it. The others (like the ugly red bitrate display) I can't get rid of unfort :(

OK...

so i have reskinned everything (including the KBPS display...which is not red on my player) and it is looking a lot better. BUT, i am having two major issues (which are somewhat related):

the dynamically displayed text (scrolling song title and folder name) seems to require a certain background color.

the folder name, on my player, has a blue background and light orange text. even if i change the background color of MAIN.BMP for this area, the folder name still shows up in a blue box.

the scrolling text (song name) is the main issue: my MAIN.BMP has a black strip for this area. the scrolling text is orange on what seems to be a transparent background. as soon as the text begins scrolling, the background gets all weird (turns green on my player).

i don't think there is a solution for this, unless we can change the text and/or background color.

i am trying a few things out still, but am not too hopeful.

i'll keep you all posted.

P.S. in order to change the KPBS text, i change the MNUM and MBITS image files (don't know if they are named the same on other players).

i have the exact same problem about the orange text and blue background on the scrolling text... if you figure out a way around it let me know... i think all you can do is make your team match those colors cause there is no way of changing them... :(

there is no way for me to do this skin the way i want. the issue with the text color and background has got me beat!

as per weecho's observation:

i am going to try to make this screen work, but it won't be very "ipod-like" anymore. :(

i will post once i have a new screen ready.

ok folks,

i'm tired and it's late. after much fiddling about with color and the 8x8 font map, i have given up on making my first draft for the player work.

since i HAD to work with black and blue on the player, i tried to design around those color. unfortunately, the player screen no longer looks very iPod-like:

still have a few bugs to work out, but for the most part this one is done.

doon man... you did it.. i like it... a lot... maybe all you have to do is work the fm screen to these colors... you know.. like instead of a green radio back.. maybe a blueish one like this... so that it matches you theme... thats what i would do anyway... and prolly what ill do if i get my hands on this.. :D :D :D :D

I think your latest them is great , congratulation. This is also tru for the radio theme

Would u be so kind to send me via email a copy of your mofified firmware file (*.bin) . I think it would be safer to upload that directly rather than trying to replace each bmp on my own .

cpaolino, It takes alot longer to try and recover a dead player than it does to load the images into your own firmware. Using someone elses .bin is always risky.

weecho, i totally agree and have that planned already. since i added the grey gradient to the bottom, i have to update the BMPs for the tiny numbers anyway (they are shared between the radio an playback screen). after that, i will do the voice recorder.

i am only a bit bummed, that i couldn't do a true ipod-like version. would have been cool, but oh well.

let me know if you have any issues with the files. i am expecting the BMPs not to work for everybody, but that's what the PSDs are for.

hi there,

i had created a swirly, rotating thing for the area where the EQ goes. i didn't like the EQ because it's just a fake animation. i had to recolor the graphic files for this, so it will be included in the final, posted version.

if you want an EQ, of course, feel free to make it and post it as a separate module for the "myPod" theme.

yes, the video player uses the same exact screen, but replaces the LYRICS bmp with one that says AMV. it also doesn't have the EQ setting or animation. kind of lame to use the same screen, since noting actually ever plays there.

hi all,

first attempt at aligning the look of my original radio screen with the new playback screen:

am thinking about having the secondary information (i.e. stereo and channels) only show up when they are "true" otherwise will leave them blank so as to not clutter up the screen. this is what i was doing with the main player screen, too (e.g. "lyrics" only shows up if there is a lyrics file for the song).

thoughts on this screen?

There is a little bug if you add the radio and the menu theme. In the music menu are some things then too white-you can not see them anymore (time playing...)...

ok I have a question about the radio theme. I have one of them that you uploaded. I was woundering what firmware are you useing?
