Changing the Menu Screen

I've got a 1GB MP4 player from China. The firmware version states:
2093
2006/06/25
9.0.50.000
2006/10/30

I don't know anymore about this player, but here is the Ebay link I purchased it from:

What's the chance of changing one of the menu screens via the firmware for an installation I'm putting together for a customer?

He wants to be able to play an advert to customers but wants to get rid of the unfriendly and complex looking menu screen showing the movie name and various functions of the player. Here's what it currently looks like:

He just wants it to be replaced with the words "PUSH PLAY" and
then the name of the file (although he'd rather the file name doesn't appear either, whcih I doubt is possible)

Anyone have any likely solutions to this?

indikit, What you are after is not possible to setup on any player. Your player is also running the latest firmware version and at the moment the current tools used to extract and modify the firmware do not work on this version so sadly even if it were possible to do you could not do it to your player.
It is also highly unlikely you would be able to downgrade your player to an editable version of firmware.

Okay, thanks for that.

But would it not be possible to do on any other type of MP4 player? I'd be quite happy to buy in the relevant kit.

If not, then would it be possible to do it with a small TFT screen and flash memory?

indikit, I doubt it would be possible on any MP4 player, you would need a custom built firmware and I have no idea how you would go about getting that.
The only thing I can think of that may do the trick is a Portable DVD player that you could set to autorun a custom made DVD or VCD

Or a digital picture frame with memory card like this:
