Default Theming, couple of questions

New member here, first up, hello everyone and big thanks to the members and mods for getting this site to what it is, it has been a godsend.

In a couple of days i have gone from wondering what the crazy chinese crap on my mp3 player was to killing it with a dodgy firmware and then fixing it again and its all thanks to this site so thanks guys.

Anyway, enough crawling, ;-) I have just started looking into these themes and stuff and I am gonna knock a few together and see what I can do, I think we could really have some fun with these and maybe get more people aware that they dont have to put up with crappy flowers and illegible graphics everywhere.

So far I have followed the tut and succesfully extracted and backed up my original firmware. I have also edited it using s1res and and then reflashed my mps with the new firmware. So far so good. Now, a few questions.....

1) I downloaded some themes for my firmware, (Version 3.5.37), but when i check through the graphics the names dont match up, why is this? Is it that there are multiple types of graphics used even within the same firmware, or can i simply rename them as long as i can figure out which one is which?

2) If there are multiple types of graphics used on the same firmware versions is there a definitive guide to what graphics go where and what their name should be? Ie, can i miss some out or will this result in dead mp3? Hope that one makes sense?

3) Is there some sort of way of changing an elements position, ie battery indicator, can i move it, rotate it etc. or are we resricted at present to simply editing images?

4) Can anyone link me to a full version of s1res, I could only get a trial. ;-)

5) I notice some familiar stuff in the mstring folder, can i change some of these entries to make my menu system more understandable?

6) My Mp3 player wont scroll album name, and shortens it, so instead of Artist name - Album name, i get Artist na and thats about it, can i edit this, if so how?

I thinks thats all for now, I will post a WIP thread of my first theme as soon as i get time to get cracking on it?

XBNormUK,

1&2. There are heaps of different firmware variations and they are changing all the time. You can not rename the images within the firmware. When an image is loaded to the firmware with s1fwx it will take on the image name that already exists in the firmware.

3.No you can't move graphics.

4. you can only get a full version of s1res by donating to 'wiRe'. I think it just removes the 60 sec wait.

5. You can edit the text strings, but in some firmware you have to stay to the same number of characters.

6. Can't change this either.

XBNormUK, thanks for joining this website.

if you are having troubles in theming your firmware, upload it and post the link in the 'Firmware Theming' topic started by me and i will see if i can do something.

by the way, if you want to avoid the 60sec timer, try downloading s1res v1.6 from somewhere

thanks for the replies guys, i havent had chance to get really cracking on anything yet, but looks like my first real task is to have a real good look at all the different images and try and figure out where on the display they are located.
One more question, can I simply leave images out, for instance if im trying to create a clearer display, or do they all have to be present otherwise it causes failure to boot?

i woudnt recommend you to leave some of the images out. it is ok in case of some images but otherwise your theme would look strange with some of the images of the theme and some of the mp4 player.

if you want my help, just upload your firmware and post the link here along with the theme you want
