As with every guide on this forum or the internet, the steps described below are of my personal views and may or may not reflect any official guides from the Teclast manufacturer, HouseOfDAP.com, or MyMPxPlayer.org Forum.
While i try to keep the guide as accurate as possible, i'm not responsible if you should brick or damage your player/computer.
Updating the firmware on your Teclast T29 is by far the easiest as compared to the other Chinese players. You do not need any software for doing so, the player itself has a built-in updating software to make life easier for us.
STEP 1 Downloading required files
If you are using Windows 98, you will need to install the Windows 98 driver. The driver file can be found
Here
Download the latest version of T29 firmware, the current latest version is
v1.07 at the moment. The various version updates contains numerous bug fixes and additional images available for theming.
For archiving purposes, here are the other versions available.
v1.03
v1.04
v1.05
v1.06
v1.07
STEP 2 Which file goes where
Now that you have downloaded the required firmware update, unpack it and locate the
3 files within it.
Firmware file:
TL_T29FW.rom
Resource file:
TL_T29RS.BIN
Help file:
固件升级方法说明.chm
Next, plug in your T29 via USB to your computer, and enter the player's
Root Directory from My Computer.
Cut/Copy the
3 files into the
Root Directory as shown below, my player's root directory is F:\, however your player may have a different drive letter assigned:
The 2 important files are the TL_T29FW.rom and TL_T29RS.BIN files. The help file is not important, and do not matter if you did not copy it into the player.
STEP 3 Safe removal of player
This will be the player's screen whilst it is connected and drive mounted to the computer:
Once you are done with the file transfer,
Safely Remove the player from your computer, this will dismount the drive from the computer. The player screen would be like this:
Now
unplug the USB cable from the computer. The player would shutdown subsequently.
STEP 4 Updating firmware
Next, turn the player
On.
You will be shown a white screen with the
Upgrade F/W display. This is very brief, about 1-2 seconds.
After this, the player would shutdown again.
Now, turn the player
On again for the second time.
You will be shown a similar white screen, but with the
Upgrade Resource display. This would take slightly longer, about 5-6 seconds.
Once done, the player would startup normally.
STEP 5 Change display language to English
The firmware has now been successfully updated.
The problem with these players are that once a new firmware has been updated, the language switches back to the original Chinese language.
To switch it back to English, scroll the menu to the
Setting menu. You can identify it by looking for the icon menu with the
gears:
Once entered, chose the first selection at the top of the list:
Entering, chose the first selection once again:
Next, scroll down by one. This would select English as the language for the player:
The language immediately changes as you scroll between the choices, so you won't go wrong selecting the wrong language:
STEP 6 Update Complete!
Firmware update and language setting has been completed. Now enjoy your player!
