As with every guide on this forum or the internet, the steps described below are of my personal views and may or may not reflect any official guides from the Teclast manufacturer, HouseOfDAP.com, or MyMPxPlayer.org Forum.
While i try to keep the guide as accurate as possible, i'm not responsible if you should brick or damage your player/computer.
Theming your T29 would generally be about the same process as most Chinese players. It involves loading a firmware, swapping images, saving the new firmware, and finally updating your T29 with the new themed firmware.
STEP 1 Downloading required files
To theme your T29, you will need
Resource Editor. The current and only version that i know of is v1.0 at the moment.
Resource Editor v1.0 can be downloaded
Here.
STEP 2 Exploring Resource Editor
The current v1.0 is only available in Chinese language. I could not locate an English version, as i suspect these tools were made by the Chinese T29 fans.
However, i've put my bilingual skills to use and translated the various text shown in the software as to the best of my knowledge (shown in red text):
Try to familiarise yourself with the buttons, there are only a few buttons you will need to theme your player.
STEP 3 Theming firmware
Once familiarised, load the firmware that you wish to theme, this can be any version. However, the latest v1.07 has additional images available as compared to the older v1.05:
Now, pay attention to the dimensions of the original image file. Your new image file should be of the
same dimensions.
Select the image file to be replaced in the
Resource List, and click on
Load New Image:
Select the new image from your computer to replace the default image.
Repeat the same for all the images you want to replace.
STEP 4 Saving themed firmware
When all the images has been replaced, click on
Save Firmware to create a new firmware file for the player:
The default name would be
newTL_T29RS.BIN, i would always save it as
TL_T29RS.BIN, as with the original filename. i have not tried updating my player with a different named .BIN firmware file, so i'm not sure if a change in filename would matter or not.
STEP 5 Updating themed firmware
If you had used v1.07 for theming, ensure that the
TL_T29FW.rom file is from the
same version! Different versions has different .rom files, and wrong versions of .BIN and .rom files might brick your player.
When you have these files ready, follow
Step 2 onwards from the
How To: Update Firmware for Teclast T29.
Once completed, you're done!
The problem with the Resource Editor v1.0 is that it does not allow you to export/extract the images from the firmware. But only allows you to view it and import new images. So basically you would need to either start from scratch with your own images, or use the Print Screen function and paste the image into your own image editor.
I've searched the Chinese Teclast forum for themed firmware files, and could only locate a handful of nice themes. Most if not all are the v1.05 firmwares. So i did the Print Screen method and imported the images into a v1.07 firmware.
Preview of the theme:
Start up screen
Menu screen, note however that the icons are missing, it's too troublesome to add/align the icons to create a .GIF preview file. So this is just the menu's background.
A camera still shot of the menu with the icons is here:
Lastly, a very useful file whilst theming your player. This is a base colour that the player reconisges as transparent. Very useful if you are designing an icon and do not wish to use the full dimensions of it.
An example of it used in one of the icons:

The green colour would be read as a transparent colour in the firmware.
