Default Modifying player with 9.1.50 FW?

Hello...

Well Im new in this. I just bought a new S1 MP4 mp3 device. I love it, i think its better than those expensive ipods, the only problem is that it has a shit of theme ... well, I've spent lots of time in google, searching in formus and mp3 web pages but I have not found what to do with my
%&#" firmware... its a 9.1.50 FW. (In the places i entered they dont even have info about it)

What can I do??? Can I do those great mods Ive seen???

---

Ohh, another thing... well my "CheaPOD" ( XD ) its the one that clones the 1st generation ipods but Ive seen clones of 2nd Generation ipods that are from the same company as mine (and have the same apps and properties) that have a newer firmware (With games and a better theme)... Can I put that FW in my MP4???? Where can I get that FW???

---

Thnx for all...

My MP4 is like this
* 1gb
*Supports Video, Ebooks, Mp3 Wav, etc... , Voice Recording
*Its white
*1.5 inch screen
*S1 mp4 mp3 motherboard
*FW 9.1.50
* No radio (the option appears in menu but cant be selected :? )

I'm affraid there is nothing you can do to modify your 9.1.50 firmware at the moment as the tools used are not compatible with your firmware version.

Because there are 100's if not 1000's of firmware variations even between same version numbers upgrading to another firmware will in most cases kill your player with little to no chance of a recovery as there are no tools available yet that will create a backup of your players current firmware.

You may have to live with what you have until updated tools are released.

Each mp4 player is different. Each model has different chip configuration, different board layout, different chip revisions. Because of that, different versions of firmware are made for specific players. Each player needs it's own unique drivers and codes to play music, video, display pics etc. These drivers are contained within that firmware version.

Different firmware versions like 9.0.43 and 9.0.50 are very very different from one another when it comes to 'operational codes'. Also each manufacturer tends to have his own versions of firmware in his players.
Lets say we're in China.. and in 1 street you have 2 manufacturers of chipods right next to each other. They're producing identical players.
You can safely bet that one of them will take a shortcut in it's production to make his cheaper so they outsell thier neighbors. One might use slightly lesser quality chips, or a cheaper revision of those chips. This would require different firmware, with different programs drivers and codes. They may look the same on the outside... but they are hell different inside.
Likewise fw v9.0.43 contains different drivers then v9.0.50 because they address different chips. So if you take 9.0.50 and replace it with 9.0.43 you'll most certainly kill your player with little chance of recovery.

Enjoy your player as is for now and hang around for the new tools to mod your little heart out.

DonoME2, The resource editor is not the problem it already works with 9.xx.x series firmware. The problem is with the firmware extraction tool not being able to read the firmware correctly.

If you can get hold of a full version of your players firmware from your seller you can mod it to your hearts content.

Oh ok , so theoretically , the 9.1.50/51 , firmware isnt out.. so whats everyone worrying about if the "getting the firmware" is the concern?

Is this a hard process like GBA.BIOS or something? lol

What is/would be the best resource editor for the firmware 9.1.51 ?

If i get a full dump of 9.1.51 , is it distributable on here?
(so long as i check first that the asian hasnt hacked it or anything when/if he gives it to me)

If i were you, i'd be very careful with that firmware if you get it. Even the slightest difference like a minor change in code could make it incompatible with your player. The end result could be a dead player.
If and when you get it you should be able to open and edit it with the latest version of s1res. Thats if it's a complete firmware file.

Getting the 'right' firmware is the major concern because anything else just won't do the job. Thats why it's important to get a fw dump from the player you want to modify and not from anyone elses. Including players with the same firmware version.
