mcgyver83 , it is never recommended to "upgrade" any firmware. Chances are 99% you would brick your player instead.
These firmwares are hardware specific, and changes frequently when manufacturers find cheaper component alternatives. However, they do not update the version number as they change the firmware. So even if you get a firmware with the exact same number, most likely it is not compatible with your player.
Just search the dead players section, and you'll understand more.
