Skinning Onda VX858LE
 

Has anyone tried to update the VX858LE, I find the theme for the VX878 is better looking (Black vista style) than on the 858, both have the same screen size 320 x 240, it would be possible to export the images from the 878 and import into the 858 without changing the layout.

Does anyone have a .lst file for the 858le, I have edited most of the onda.lst to work on the 858le, but may need help with a few little items.

I've done it with my Onda VX858.

For skinning Onda VX858(LE) you need the latest version of RKLogoEdit version 1.0.0.17 which is in Chinese, I will upload it soon, anyway you can take it from Onda/BBS (It have been down the last 2 days).
This version comes with LST files for Onda players integrated, then it's not needed of LST files.

The only problem it has is is Chinese so you have to change some parameters in your PC OS to work with Chinese characters, here is an explanation how to do this Allow Chinese characters

Sorry to inform you that RKLogoEdit v1.0.0.17 Chinese is only compatible with Onda VX858 and it doesn't have a LST for VX878... then to extract its panels is still needed the appropriate .LST file, this surely is available in Onda/BBS but this site is still closed for maintenance.

I am looking to keep most of the current 858LE screens, but to change the nasty music player and radio screens to the better looking 878 style.

Using v1.0.0.17 I can dump out the bmps for the 878, and I can view most of the 858LE (but will need a little work to create the full .lst file), If anyone has a .lst fiel for either of these models, then that would help.

You'll have a problem with music screen, beside of this screen is composed of several small pieces (about 10 or more)... 878 uses in some areas font colour WHITE and 858 have this portions in BLACK then you won't see texts and you won't be able to change it as it comes in the code of the firmware rather than the screen itself.
In Onda/BBS some zhiyu0212 upload a firmware for VX858 no-LE using a Vista motive which looks very good. it's in version 00.00.0017 which is not compatible with VX858LE.
Unfortunately Onda/BBS is still down due to Chinese government cut Internet for some reason.

hi every one I'm going to try send this in most forums threat talking about the onda vx858le witch i own i received it last week and have been looking up for information as how to change the theme customize it or Else so i wanted to get the 878 firmware look backgrounds on player that i found look a little better but didn't see any way indeed so i got software rklogoedit 00.00.00.16 something like that and an lst file from this forum made for 858 non Le but it seems tot work well got all this and i begin getting some images out i didn't actually did much of a change but change one picture witch is the main menu not the setting but how ever if anyone wants it changed icon pasted some with corel so I'm going to upload it to a sharing site like megaupload its on version 2 of firmware actually the latest so all you need is to know how to install the firmware http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/5...uscreensh1.png

i tryed doing the 878 music menu look turns out nearly perfect copy but i ad to ad som white to the time lasted path and volume path it just let you see on dark background the black righting so its the best i could do i dont know how to modify the explorer radio recorder video photo menu background sorry its still a 858le firmware latest with the previus menu icon on article above and o i didn't change the buttons on player menu to dark i'll try that later

ps anyone downloads this give your opignion what icon would you change and little update on the 878 player menu tomorow if i have time anyone find this interesting tell where would be the best place to post this and pleez i didn't right my name on anything so just be kind to let me little credit for my work not hard work but just learning

I have installed your firmware but it is not very stable only and then the icons they change.
The menu is as before unfortunately equal.
Would I like to help you but does it jam unfortunately, how come?
can you tell me which version of rclogoedit you have used?

To do the music panel you have to change several screens... If I am not wrong... are numbered from 006 to 018 maybe also 019 / 020... if not will appear some patches where it goes number of songs, bitrate, EQ mode, etc.
To do this you must take exactly the potition where each patch goes and take the colour from screen 006.

Does anyone think we should start to write our own firmware editor?, Im sorry but, the RKLogoEdit.exe is not the easiest app to use, it's very clunky.

Start with the Onda (858, 858LE,878 etc), which I have,
make it open source and make it free.

I have made a start, Ill let you know how I get on,
anyone wishing to participate, please use this board for now,

hi again i've been using the litle theme i've done for one week no problem never came back to narmal without the icons not freez seem ok and then now i did the black buttons from player screen and nicer little agustement new settings menu done with new icons this is truly quick work and over the 2 next week i really think i'll have something really close to 878 firmware all ready learned how to get backgrouds dark and a few things no really you see that i'm a noob playing with my photoshop and aaaa well one big step would be getting the writings all white but i guess thats just dreaming yet

oooo i'm well aware thats what i've done lot of work but the thing is text is freaking black on black then i felt stupid so i ad a little white touch but i tryed doing better on the latest i test every vertion i cant say good for sure its truly crappy and fast work dont expect much before i get more experience ^^ but later i'll try getting some background do something els than try copie 878 try other colors so that there will be no font color echu sorry for my spelling i'm half french and english unfortunatly never been to english school so allso coming up i'll do petter work for touch buttons i'll do them for all the player interface i'll replace all the browsers backgrouds to look like 878 but a little bit brighter so that text shows i'll do what i can to improve in the next 2 week could be long before finiched just needs a little motivation

Hi, I have been playing and created a Apple Aqua style player screen, this one will work fine with the black font.

I would like it if someone could test the firmware to see if I have correctly altered the images, I cant install the ConsumerUpdate, it keeps crashing before finishing, so have not been able to test,

I would like to make some comments about your wonderful work...
1.- Negative first ;)... I suppose that you are a Mac user... that's why you make this homage to this Apple product. Without the silly face it would have look pretty too, and I would enjoy putting it in my VX858.
2.- Positives now :lol: ... Indeed it looks awesome clear and well constructed... who knows how many pictures are needed to patch would understand you... I like it very much
3.- How did you manage to take this nice pic of your work? or is it the example you follow?
4.- Nice presentation of your message too... also well made.

Concerning the error messages of RKLogoEdit... I suggest you to add Chinese to your OS to work flawlessly with the program. I know how to do it in Windows XP... read here Installing Chinese

Hi All,

I was trying to produce something that seemed better to look at than the basic vx858 screen, this is not a homage, I have never even used a mac, Apple have nothing to worry about :wink:.

The screenshot is a mockup of how the player should look, this is taken from all the images that make up the media player, if anyone wants the original images, I can pack them up.

As for the little face, it's just to help fill the gap at the bottom, I was going to change the popup menus to look like aqua buttons, maybe after the firmware seems ok on install.

By the way, I typed in "Avril Lavigne", it was not on my 858, I could'nt think of another track :lol: .

this is really good and original not like my tentative to rip off the skins of the onda vx878 i'll try doing things like that up to know i never found any boby sending themes so i'm really happy its startings to appear to peoples thats its really easy on general play screen and menu this is cool mean more original themes and creative idears i have to say i' could do a litle more but at some point i'm stuck because the lst out for onda vx858 is crap i works for only a part a small part of all the pictures maybe its no good for the 858le or its never been anygood for the 2 desperatly nned a good lst for 858 858le and 878 then we will all be able to do some resious looking themes

Quick Aqua update,
I have successfully flashed my player, and now have a lovely Aqua style media player (sooo much better).

I tried to take a picture using my phone, but it was too blurred, and would not do the skin justice, it does look just like the mock up.

To Do:
1. Create new menu buttons in aqua glass style,
2. Look into the radio screen and try to copy the same style,
3. Release images along with firmware upgrade,
4. Go to pub,

Current Status :

Aqua Skin Version 1 for VX858LE
Firmware 00.00.00 for Ver2
Tested : OK

Includes :
Media Player only

Are both version compatible?

I ask you because some member here is having hard problems because he mis-installed its VX858 versions (wrongly installed VX858 in a VX858LE) and is needing VX858LE v2

Hi All,

As far as i know, this new version is for both Ver1 and Ver2 of VX858LE, and should work (Tested on ver2).

This firmware is not for VX858, only for VX858LE

Hi,

You will need the consumer update program that came on your disk.

Run the consumerupdate program and select the new firmware file,
turn off your mp3 player,
plug your mp3 player into the USB and keep your finger on the "M" key in the middle of the 3 keys at the bottom of the player, for around a 10 sec count, this will place you into upgrade mode.

you can then use the consumer update program to flash your mp3 player with the firmware.

If you get an error about no RockChip found, make sure you have installed the drivers for the rockchip on you PC, and try again.



Look at the serial number on the back of your player, it will tell you the model

Model : VX858LE Memory 4GB


look for the "V" in the serial number, that will tell you what version you have

SN : VX858LEFGIV200150




you dont need the RKLogoEdit program, that is for editing the firmware.

Hi everybody, i know that this topic only about skinning but i have a question.
Can someone make a firmware, that turns off the light if i play music? I think it is very usefull because you can listen musics longer.

And if you charge the battery, the light is still on. it isn´t good i think.

Two questions in one... ok here we go:

You can play music with option "Blight Save" set to "Power Save", it will switch off screen according with value set in "Blight Time". Blight means Back light.

When you are charging battery, this is connected to USB but not connected to PC, you must press MENU for some seconds and Main menu will appear, then it will be in effect the rule explained above, like if you were playing music. BTW, you can play music while you're charging if you want, but it will take more to charge completely the battery.
