You are using Windows Vista really?... I don't know about Vista indeed.

Anyway use the latest firmware update from here Firmware Update ex-Customr Update. It's version 3.1.2.0
And try again to install your firmware for VX858LE with this latest version

Hi, i'm not using windows vista it's Xp i'm using...
But i did what uyou told me with the 3.1.2.0. I got the message NO ROCK USB FOUND. Im wondeing if the player is really in upgrade mode (a forced one) when it shows the vista skin...if so why the firmware is not accepting it. Is it the only firmware for such upgrade?

If in your XP it appears as a rockusb then it's in upgrade mode. This means that is not showing as removable disk and in the icon on system tray is showing rockusb label.

When you said that shows a Vista skin means that is showing that black screen with the green slider and never get to show main menu.

Confirm this please maybe you will need to use Nand-tool to clean your flash memory... this is here nand tool
Concerning firmware you have to use VX858LE V2 Option 1 or Option 2

ok i'll be trying...thanks a lot!

The vista skin i have is not black but green but there is a big logo of Ms windows and a logo of usb right on the top of the player...i see always this since my bad upgrade when i try to force the player into upgrade.

I download nand tool but how to install it? Do i have to click only on the file NAND_TOOL. It is the only executable file in the program that make sense for our purpose....all the rest show me the same thing asking me if i want to make a dvd disk or a cd one, by the way they are nero burn program, and i did ihave nero program before!!!

So i click on nand_tool and all i see is a big windows with many options (those i'm looking for i disabled)...but no information sent back about my player in the usuall upgrade mode..Nand_tools is not installed yet right?

there is no relation with that nero stuff.

Nand tool is just a program that recognize your flash memory here is the screen http://www.mympxplayer.org/pafiledb/...lipboard02.jpg

you must press "read chip info" to know if it works with your player

It it work with your player you have to clean flash memory by pressing "erase flash" with option "erase all memory"

Did you try pressing the clip in the reset hole for 20 seconds?

I can't see the down part of the program nand...when i open it. The two button down like read chip information i can't see it nor the second one. It is like the program's windows is too big and can't feet on my screen...even my screen is big enough. I tried to fix it by adjusting my sreen menu but nothing...see you, thanks

On the Mp4nation Forum another vx858 owner successfully recovered his player with a hard reset here's what he did:-

"The hardest part of the recovery is to open the back of the player!
Tools you need to put your player in “Programmable Mode”:
1. Small Tweezers
After you open your player:
1. Carefully remove the battery to the side
2. With player turned off connect your player to computer.
3. Turn the player face down with the memory reader towards you!
4. With tweezers open, move tweezers touching the contacts of the Rock Chip from left to right on the side closest to you!
5. Stop as soon as you hear or see player connect to the computer
6. Reprogram you player using “Consumer Update” program.
You will need to reformat your internal memory before you can start using it!
"

Nand_tool does look interesting as it can force update...but how come it can't fit on the on a sreen? By the way i don't think it is installed yet because i started it from the folder i downloaded to...not from the start menu as other program. Does it make sens or do i have the right nand_tool program?

Re: my onda vx858 is locked

The Nand tool doesn't need to be installed you just click on Nand_Tool.exe
But don't bother with Nand tool yet, you need to be in RockUSB mode first.
Double click on the remove hardware icon in your system tray.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...lipboard01.jpg

If you are in RockUSB mode you will see the icon in the window like this:-

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...lipboard03.jpg

You MUST be in RockUSB mode to change your firmware OR to use the NAND tool.
To get into RockUSb mode
1) switch the player off.
2) hold down the menu key.
3)connect the USB cable
4) wait a few seconds
5) release the menu key
6) look for the RockUSB icon.

7) If you see the RockUSB icon, load the CORRECT firmware for your vx858 player using Consumerupdate program.

It this fails then as a last resort I suggest you do the Hard Reset already described to get into RockUSB mode and load the CORRECT firmware for your vx858 player using Consumerupdate program.

You will need to open your player to do the HARD reset, but only try this if you are confident with opening your player or you might break something!

Hello guys! I'm new to the forum and i just bought a Onda Vx858. And unfortunately i tried to do a reskin to it and i killed it, because idiot that i am i uploaded the LE firmware to it instead of the standard VX858, and now when i turn it on i get the welcome screen and then at the main menu it gets blocked and i cant do anything to it anymore except reset it, to turn it back off, and i tried to do what you said with the auto update tool by turning off the player and then pressing on the buttons for 10 secs with the USB connected, and i got nothing(i installed the CUSTOMER UPDATE software, with 3 vers now 2.8.1, 3.1.0.0 and 3.1.2.0).Is there anything else i can do, or did I proceed correctly?
Must I have the original firmware from the MP4 player because i have the vers 0.0.8 and 0.0.16 and 0.0.17?
please help.thank you
