New Skin for Onda vx858
Just wanted some opinions on a new fimware im designing for some Stalkers in my unit. Its taken me three days so fan and im almost complete, should be finished in another two days. Still ironing out the animation though, frames jump a few pixels from frame to frame.
EDIT i deleted the pics
Also, my onda makes a wierd noise along with the beep whenever it processes a movement or something. whenever the hourglass icon changes, etc. The speaker works fine with music, and whenever i turn off the beep, it still makes the noise. However it doesn't when playing a video, so i dont think its when its processing. Any help?
EDIT this thing is taking me forever, with things not lining up by a pixel, anyone think i should give up and use the original? or spend another seven or eight hours to finish it?

Re: New Skin for Onda vx858
It looks really good, I would stick with it since if you don't every time you use the player you'll probably wish you finished like a thorn in your side.
I am ordering an OEM VX858 8GB player, if I wanted to skin that, would I be able to use similar methods as you are?
I know the firmwares might not be compatible since mine will be an OEM and not a true Onda, but I could take the OEM firmware off of MY player and edit with the same program you are using, and then upload it back to the player, right?

Sure, its editable in the same way I am. Youll need photoshop, dancemammals editor, rklogo edit and the rkmenu edit tools from the dl section of this site though ( though not photoshop ><) and a little talent and a TON of time. Just changing the main menu isn't too bad, just a few min, but right now im updating every single graphic of the firmware. (21 hours spread over three days so far working on it, from 8am to now in just today) and im only 85% done id say. Theres about 98 images from the onda firmware alone that have to be aligned pixel perfectly and redone. Send me a pm if you need any help.

You can't do this just yet, dancemammal is still working on the Rockchip firmware extractor so it should be possible quite soon, hopefully....

Re: New Skin for Onda vx858
heya, im about 98% complete now. I am determined to change every single image file in the firmware, even if its never seen, like the now playing spiderman thing. (how do you even get to that screen on an onda?) anyway, i ran into a snag. The recording screen has glitches across it, where i guess an image file is supposed to be uploaded but its not there or something. It only happens on the record screen, any help from anyone? This is the only thing keeping it from being a perfect mod. Im right at 52 hours into the project (18 hours yesterday, im determined ><) and this thing is keeping it from being perfect. GRRR!

Ahhh, is this true? There is not currently a way to rip the firmware from the player? If this is not an option, will the player itself be able to display the firmware version so that I can try to track down a link to download it, modify and reflash? I would try some of the stuff over at MP4nation but apparently at least one person bricked their player and I don't know if the ones they and TinyDeal are selling are the same.
Or if anyone knows what firmware type/version that the 8GB VX858 clone from TinyDeal uses please do share, the player should be here in about a week or two, it just shipped from Hong Kong.
Seraph -- the mod looks great, this really inspired me to try my own hand at skinning the similar player I just ordered, you can really transform the player into a totally different beast just with a bit of graphics work, very nice.

Don't hurry to flash the firmware when you get your player, a lot of folks have bricked their VX858 clones.
Dancemammal is still working on the firmware extractor, it might save you a lot of grief if you can make a backup of a firmware that you know works for sure..

Hello and nice to meet you ,Seraph.
I think your design is very cool.
Would you offer your Firmware?
If you already had.
Because it was not found, I please show the link.
Regards.
