MP5 Generic RKR2706 BackUp and Screen issues
 

I have a mp5 the system information:

I have two issues with it 1st I couldn't make the firmware backup so far, I tried the procedure to backup the firmware (lilnk bellow) but it was not successfull:
Firmware backup
Tried use rkusb.tag, frk.tag and teclast.sys, only one at a time, all together, many tools but didn`t worked.

The 2nd issue I was surfing in the menu tree, I was seting the brightness then everything went dark on screen now I just can`t see anything on screen, USB pen drive is working fine, tried to reset using the side reset button but unfortunatelly nothing happend.

To make it worst the CD it came with the mp5 is not working has crc error and manual is really bad.

Can anyone help m to get screen back on and firmware backup.

i have this player and nit always does this, mine does it 3 or 4 times a week, basically the firmware partiton just dies, at any point and i have to then restore it!!

personally i would return it as this will always happen

did you get yours from tinydeal, if so its the same as mine and i have a firm ware back up and also a tech for bringing it back alive

I bought this from MyOutlet21 at Amazon.com. I would return it but I'm not in US at this momment and it would be too expensive to send it, I want to try to make it work.

Yesterday I was tapping th screen trying something, the screen blinked sometimes the root menu, not only the root menu but more often, when I turn it on a little light blink once then goes dark.

I didn't metioned before and maybe it makes diference, it does'nt has camera, it is a 16Gbs, and has micro SD slot.

Hi, just made one test right now, I got radio noise, as I did not set or scanned any station I guess it is working but unfortunatelly it has a set for all dark screen on brightness, I have no idea why someone would create it, anyway, if you (or someone) could help me on get the brightness set to a defaullt value would be great, at least I could use it, then I could focus on get a firmware backup.

mm, its quite hard to tell you how to navigate blind as its a touch screen and no way to tell if you are in the right place or not

do yo have any music on the player??

try jsut pressing the middle button a fewe times and that will select the audio and a song to paly

yeah I know it is hard to do it in blind mode, I saw a device with same navigation menu on youtube, tried, but didn`t worked. I was hoping to have a config file on hiden partition, delete it but so far I couldn`t get into it, the seller said there is no way to backup either upgrate the firmware(well so far I've being unsuccessful).

The hard part of it is that this is a brand new one and I was trying it for the fist time when it went dark so I did not uploaded any music or video file. I could try. Any other idea how to get access to hidden partition?

did you reset the player when you tried the hidden partition

now if your player has gone the same way mine does when it goes black (and it does it alot!!!) then basically the firmware is dead and gone

anyway pop in the rkusb.tag files again then make a copy and rename it wisky.sys then make another copy and rename it frk.sys, disconnect the player and press the reset hole and reconnect and see what happens

other then that we may be reduced to recovering with some tools (software) but this wil wipe out the firmware files, if they still exist, which is bad because you have no backup of the firmware

you say you get flashes of light from the screen???, could also be the backlight that has gone

I did not reset before, now placed all files you suggested, reset it but nothing has changed, I reset unpluged, pluged on USB, nothing.

Actually the only thing is that for a fraction of a second I saw the initial animation then dark again so its being randomly that i see something, I`m starting to believe you might be right about the back light, but maybe a bad connection(?).

About tools I tried some, RK27 Device Manager (when I connect the device the tool says it found several devices and doesn't work), RK27Upgrade_v2.5 I did not tried cause it said will erase the hiden partition, even s1fwx I tried.

I was tapping trying to "use" the voice recorder and got a folder record created on mp4 so for me it is working my problem it the dark screen setting (and being unable to backup the firmware).

I have found that its board is TY_805V04 2008.5.24 also on net I found 1 chinese site where states it is same as Onda VX747

its not the same as the onda vx747, its a different main chip altogether, BUT there are a few seller selling true unbranded version of the onda player

if you have opened the player then look at the writing on the main chip, if it says rockchip 2706 then it is not an onda , if it says ingenics then it is

sounds to me like a faulty screen anyway?

also the fat that it created that folder RECORD is exactly what the rockchip version does

The screen is back on, I made it bright again, I opened it again put in front of a strong light and set the brightness to original setting, I could listen radio and music for the first time. 1st mission accomplished.

I still not successful on firmware backup.

There was a kind of glue within battery and main ship, I could not read its name/brand.

go to SETTINGS and select SYSTEM INFORMATION and see what it says there

so you have tried all the variations on renaming the rkusb.tag files

the only other possible way in is to short the memory chip but ths may have risks and as you have no backup as yet i would not do it, i may experiment with this on my player to see if it will work

Yes tried all variations suggested and beyound, here you go:

frk.sys, frk.tag, rkusb.sys, rkusb.tag, teclast.sys, teclast.tag, usb.sys, usb.tag, wisky.sys, wisky.tag also rockusb27.tag and rockusb27.sys.
Reseting when it is turned off, reseting when it is turned on, reseting when pluged in.

Any other suggestion to back up firmware?

I also have a player (quite different looking than yours) with firmware version 2.2 and the same hardware id as yours. I also can't backup my firmware. No tag/sys file seems to work :(

There are couple more tag names that exist:-
yuxtest1.yux
yuxtest2.yux

If I come across any more I will post them up.

Thanks didn`t work so far, on system meno there is a option to upgrade firmware and a restrable menu but as I did not back up the original one I`m avoiding testing this.
