ConsumerUpdate for Rockchip RK2708B
The disk that came with my son's Pryus Electronics Rockchip RK2708B MP4 player contains a folder for ConsumerUpdate 3.1.2.0. What does this software do? Does it update the firmware? I run the setup and it placed a folder in my Program Files folder with exe files named Consumer.exe and CopyInFile.exe. Does anybody know what these files will do? Can I mod this player? How can I see the hidden firmware partition?

You can make a firmware backup using a rkusb.tag file.
Find the instructions from this site - search for "rkusb". There's a topic related to the backup procedure. Then, after you'll get a firmware backup, you're able to mod your firmware without (almost) any risk. |
Can you specify witch topic you mean?
There is 4 pages of search results for "rkusb" and most of topics are related to backup procedure... |
You need to do a backup first, look here:-
http://mympx.org/forum/mods-themes/4...s-players.html If this doesn't work then you have a newer type player and you can't do any modding. good luck! |
By newer type of player you mean thant there are two hidden partitions?
AFAIK all RK2708B have 2 hidden partitions... |
I want to backup the hidden partition before I mod it. I can't see the hidden partition even if I place the RKUSB file on the player. Are the newer players locked from showing the hidden partition? I opened the case and the board had a white sticker attached with a date of 11/2009 so that is pretty new. I read about renaming the RKUSB file and will try that.
