ACTION v9 players...

...any news on firmware mods for these players? i'm stuck with one, and i hate how the font size hogs the screen and would like to change it to something more efficient. i also don't like how you can practically only see just 10 digits more or less when you're browsing the song lists... i wanna change it to a smaller size to accommodate more. plus the names doesn't scroll, unlike other players that scroll the names to compensate for not fitting the screen when you highlight them.

s1res

You must extract original firmware from YOUR player and verify it works.

Modify at your own risk.

...so are you saying s1res now supports 9.x (or v9) firmware? i've read around that i do need to do that, it's just a matter of whether there are any software out there that can do that (which is why i'm asking if there's any news about these things).

It should work on Series 9 chips.

hmm... i'll give it a go. be back on whether it works or not on my firmware.

EDIT:
okay, ADFU says "Data is invalid"
GIVEIO says "The semaphore timeout period has expired".

so basically, it doesn't work on my device, which is a very sucky Melody 4gb player with very sucky menu and GUI and whatnots. my firmware is as follows:

2008/09/30
9.5.54
2008/07/10
ASDKS15

i guess that could be a heads-up of sorts.

9.5.54? That's Series 11.

oh? now that i didn't know, even after scouring the net. here's the thing though, even though i haven't had much success with finding any firmware editor for this series (although i'll try again, now that i know it's series 11), i do know for a FACT that there's already software for this, mainly because my device's splash screen is customized by the distributor, and i've seen this same device on another distributor with a different splash screen. i'll try to maybe swing by the tech guy they have at the shop, maybe he'll be kind enough to share whatever software they used (that is, if the customizing was done on their part and not on the manufacturer side).

Series 9: ATJ209x ('91, '93, '97, etc.) and AK102x
Series 11: ATJ211x and AK202x

Not sure if it applies in your case but the semaphore timeout error in my experience is caused by only one thing - the computer tries to send the USB data too fast, and either the cable is of poor quality or the controller in the player is too slow. Look for an option to disable USB 2.0 mode in your BIOS and use it - it worked wonders for me. Don't forget to enable it back once you're done with your player, as i don't think you wanna wait half a day for that 16 gig flash drive you might have.
