Default Poll: Do you tend to spend more at Xmas time?

With Christmas approaching, I know I tend to spend a heap more than usual. Not only on presents for others, but also a 'treat' for myself (thinking a XBox 360 or PS3....?).

What about you?
  • Do you find do you spend more than usual around Christmas time?
  • If so, what will you spend it on? Presents?
  • What would you get for yourself?

Oh yeah, I spend more. Lately I've taken to getting gift cards unless I have a specific gift in mind. That helps keep me from getting too carried away.

I also have a bad habit on spending more on presents for myself. Last year it was a new TV and my first chipod. This year, who knows? I have a bad habit of buying anything electronic that catches my eye. I am a horrible impulse shopper when it comes to gadgets and gizmos. ops:

I buy mostly gift cards nowadays, and I keep the amount spent on them pretty consistent across the board. I try not to go crazy spending on Christmas gifts and I don't care if I get anything, because I really don't need anything.

Last year, I participated in a gift collection and delivery program for senior citizens who are isolated and have no family around. It was very rewarding and I plan to do it again this year. The smiles on their faces was my best Christmas gift!

Buzzygirl, we've done something similar. We call out to the nursing home and ask which residents don't have any family, then we get their sizes and some suggestions on stuff they need. A couple of gifts plus a Christmas card can make all the difference in someone's holidays.

I used to get presents for the kids from the Angel Tree at Wal-Mart, but those go very fast so the kids are well taken care of, but the elderly are often forgotten. I love the idea of a whole program to collect gifts for them!

Hey Booboo,

Yes, it is great to watch their faces light up when seniors know they haven't been forgotten! I totally support the local Toys for Tots and similar efforts to get toys to kids (I put a couple of toys to the office collection box each holiday season) but it seems there are far fewer people volunteering for senior gift collection and delivery. I was so impressed by the local Gifts for Seniors efforts that I plan to offer my help again this year.

In New Zealand it is best to wait after Christmas to get great deals! On the 26th of December NZ has 'Boxing Day' and the deals are even better than just before Christmas.

Re: Dima Mp4 you should buy a DS Lite & get a R4 so you can get NDS Game roms, play music etc on it.
