JayBee, The firmware is designed to run on a CTW500 chipset not ATJ2085 that is standard in most chiPods. Even though s1fwx will extract the firmware it will not repair it so the extracted firmware is unusable.

Re: New Player Review
Oh I see.
My player looks just like yours but has 3.5.37-001 firmware, I am not sure what chipset is in there though. Is there any way to check that without opening the player? I am still hoping that I could put newer firmware in the future because the player is great except for the missing file browsing feature. Thank you for your reply! |
JayBee, You can use EasyChips to find your chipset type HERE.

oh god...
i managed to fix it by formatting it like you suggested - cheers - but now its broken worse than ever :`( i was using it on a Mac at my course, and a little dialog popped up saying "unsafe device removal" (I hadn't actually disconnected it). when I looked at the player it was continually flashing the little hourglass icon as if it were loading, then it went black. Now it doesn't power on, weather or not connected to a computer. it has about as much function now as an expensive paperweight. Any ideas on how I could perhaps repair it before I start looking into the legalities of its warranty and stuff? any advice greatly appriciated |
Trouserpants, Does not sound good. When you connect your player to your XP does it show in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controller as a USB Mass Storage Drive?

would you reccomend i attempt taking it apart and trying a recovery like in the guide? or should i contact the seller |

Re: New Player Review
aye, indeed it is.
as an interesting development, i was actually able to get the player to power on the other day when it was connected to my PC, all the files were intact. when I unplugged it however, it said "low battery" and powered down, reverting back to its useless state. I am occasionally able to get it to turn on, but only ever for a few seconds unless it is plugged in. This would lead me to believe theres a fault with the battery and its abilty to charge |
Trouserpants, Did you receive my email? Did it help?
