Default Vortex VMP44096-05

Hi everybody! Today I want to present you my MP4 player. It's a Vortex VMP44096-05...
Click the image to open in full size.
...and it contains an Anyka AK3223M chip. It has 4 gb memory and it was only 125$!! I got it 5 months ago for my birthday. Back then, I have only seen those crappy Actions players, so it was the greatest present.

First things first! It has a 2.6" 240x320 LCD.Very good, but it doesn't receive enough power from the battery, since sometimes I see some shaky vertical lines on it. But it's OK and VERY BIG!!
The internal memory is 4 GB and it also has a miniSD slot which accepts cards up to 2 GB!
Now formats: it reads MP3, AAC, WMA and WAV music, it records WAV foles, but the microphone's quality is very low: the sound you want to record must be very loud and close to the mike to appear on the recording. It also skipps over certain parts of the recording.
Back to formats! It also reads AVI (XVID or H.263), MP4 and 3GP movies. That means this is one of the least REAL MP4 players! And the playback is really good, except for one thing: when you fast-forward a AVI, sometimes the video and sound desynchronize until you start the film over. By the way, when you exit a movie/e-book/game, it saves your position.
It also reads .txt files (e-books). You may set a lot of things, like background color, text selector color, selected text color, auto reading etc.
It has an FM Radio, which only works when the headphones are plugged in, so you can't listen to the radio on the speaker, which, by the way, isn't very powerful. The radio is very distorted, sometimes when you long press a key, it kinda loses the signal!! But it can save 20 channels and has Europe and Japan Mode.
The player comes with 5 games, and also has a NES emulator, however it can't use the save function of some games.
The player also has a 2MP camera, which also records AVI(H.263) video, but the pictures are worse than, let's say, a cellphone with 2MP camera(e.g. Sony Ericsson V630i).
It can open JPG, BMP, GIF and PNG pictures, but no larger than 2MP-camera-pictures (I tried with a 3MP one and it didn't work), it can rotate them and can also zoom in larger pictures than 320x240, but only a few times.
The player also features a webcam mode, but the drivers don't come in the package, they must be downloaded from the Internet, and a calendar, with date search function, until 2099.
It also has a Windows-like file explorer, with Copy/Cut/Paste/Delete/Attributes function. You can also move files between the internal memory and a miniSD card.
And now, the Settings menu... It features language select, but only has English and 3 types of Chinese! You also get a "memory information" option, "return to factory settings", "button click volume" etc. and "personal setup" where you can find settings for contrast, startup picture, shutdown picture, "screensaver time" (how much time until the screen turns off", idle shutdown time, which, unfortunately, also applies when you ACTUALLY LISTEN to music/radio and how much time between 2 "low battery" warnings. So this MP4 player is actually pretty tweakable.
It also has a hidden BIOS: if the player is off and you press UP + ON/OFF button and then DOWN button you get into the BIOS, which allows you to mess with the firmware when connected to the PC, format the internal memory and show the BIOS version.
So that's about it! It's pretty cool, but it also has some bugs: poorly translated UI, errors when plugged in to recharge and the memory card is accessed etc. Recently, I found out that, for some reason, it won't show me its internal memory when I connect it to the PC: no matter what I do, it only shows me the memory card.
The package contained: the MP4 player, headphones (poor quality, the right one pops when there are loud basses), USB cable (really good and long), charger (it stopped working after a month) and instruction manual (Romanian and English; strangely, in the English one says it can play 6h music and 3h movies when fully charged and in the Romanian one says 4h music and 2h movies; in the "firmware update" chapter there are instructions for another player model, which apparently has an M button). Also, on the back of the box the exporter of the product is acknowledged: it's an address from Kowloon, Hong Kong. But, overall, it's a pretty good player. If you find it in your countries, it's a good idea to buy it! If not, you can get it from Romania (or maybe eBay, but i'm not sure )!

Also, you can find a few pictures with it at http://www.flickr.com/photos/2402920...57608277649777
