[Review] Onda VX585HD from HouseofDap.com

Got the player today. Nice big screen, great for video, arrived safely from House of Dap.
Here's what you get:-


Extension cable for USB on the go.
Onda earphones.
Usb data cable.
Nicely printed, but in Chinese only! user instructions
Usb Charger Cable
Fancy Onda Cleaning cloth.

Well this is more of video player than an audio player.


It supports .srt subtitles if they are in the same folder and same name as the video.
So far tested .mp4 ,.mkv and .avi all played no problem.

Audio quality is good but there are one or 2 niggles with the interface.
It recognises id3 tags but they get chopped off if they are too long, I like to see a scroll.

No album art (should be standard by now) and the font is not good, but this what you get on all these chinese players.

No album art.
Usual poor font.
Only English and Chinese language support
Id3 don't scroll

Tried USB OTG
Sandisk Cruzer micro 8GB couldn't mount on player, got message "Device not exist!"
Kingston 2GB couldn't mount on player, got message "Device not exist!"
Western Digital MyBook 1TB, mounted good was able to play all video types
including .vob files but no subtitles or multiple audio channels from DVD .vobs.
Tried to load DVD .iso but no luck.
OTG works good when it works, but seems a bit picky with thumb drives.

Not tested HDMI out yet (need to get a mini hdmi adapter!)

I would recommend this for a video player, but if you are buying for audio then the interface is
not good even though the sound quality is.
I think this could be a great all round player if Onda had put a bit more effort into the firmware.
I have quite an assortment of videos so I think this will be my main Video player now.
