Review: Chuwi J4 Android Player from JTShopOnline

Here is my review of the Chuwi J4 player from JTShopOnline.

NOTE: This review is incomplete and and I will add and update more later on.

I am very excited to finally get my hands on an Android player. This is a huge step in the right direction for Portable Media Players (PMP). The Android players gives us more flexibility than the MP4 players currently out there. It is easier to can install our own apps and games and we're not restricted with the limited available tools for the MP4 players.

I've attached some photos and will add more content later.

Enjoy.

sorry, but the j4 is one the worst crap i ever bought. the pmp under melis is quite good, but below average. android on the other side is absolutely useless and def. not worth wasting time to specify. Probably Ok for $30 (heard thats the price in china) but for 59 you better save up your money for the new rk2918 5"tabs.

Liquid,

I agree with you on this one as well.
The Chuwi Melis OS works fine for what it's designed for - PMP, video and picture display.
But the Android OS is really slow and a lot of the apps don't work on it anyway.
I'm going to write up a full review shortly.

found 2 more cons in the melis os [still no use the -on this hardware- useless Android ;) ]
Player donīt remember the point it stopped (allways starts with the beginning of the last song)
and itīs not able to search in mixes >1hour (skip to the next instead)
another annoying con are the volume knobs.
They only work with screen on - so whatīs the meaning of hardware buttons if you have to activate display first?
But besides this itīs a good emergency device (in case all other just ran out of power) ;)

everytime I use this player, I discover more cons ;)
slooow usb bus (1,5 mb/s)
4GB version is only 3 (because of Android)

the challenge on this player is not to get android to work
but to get completely rid of it to increase the low storage

I agree with you.
While Chuwi's OS works fine on the player, Android is a waste of space and is not really usable from my point of view. The Android OS on the player is very slow, hard to get connected to Windows so you can copy stuff to it and the only real way of doing it is to use an external card instead. But then that means you'll have to buy yourself an external card.

Plus, not all Android apps will run on the player either so you're stuck with only a handful of Android apps that this player can run anyway.
