I think it is impossible by now.
The only thing I did so far is solder another on-off switch to the top of the device, since the back one is not exactly convenient.

The problem with your player is most obviously a messed up partition - that's why the player cannot read files to generate the database...

There should be a way to put the sucker into recovery mode and reflash it.
Like pressing this and that button together and power on.

the biggest problem is that if you switch to English interface, Russian mp3-tags (they are ansi 1251) are also displayed as chineese
