The procedure is to recover your player so it's in a working state, it won't improve it. Generally, if you used a wrong firmware for your player, it's quite hard to bring it back to it's...

If you can, take it back to who you bought it from and tell them to give you another one. He shouldn't have suggested to you to update the firmware in the first place.
