As for TV out cables, I've seen two different kinds. They look the same, but they are wired differently. I would hope that any A/V cable you got with the player would be the right one.

I tried this same thing with some other firmware from a similar player (don't remember which one now), and it did work OK -- sort of. The "M" and the arrow buttons don't do anything -- but I believe...
