I have now done the anti-hack and format - low and behold was only 2GB!! not the 4GB as advertised, anyway uploaded all the songs but still can't go through menu! any ideas if upgrading the firmware...

Yeah takes a little while to get back to the list...

Yeah takes a little while to get back to the list of artists - then you try to move up or down the list and it flicks straight back to the player?

I have a fake 'I-pod nano 4GB' as seen on ebay. I have added a load of albums on it in the following format of folders:

Artist (Folder)- Album Title (Folder in Artist Folder) - Songs (Files)
...
