Hi sachitmaskey,

Not sure if you have tried this, but what happens if you plug it into a different USB port on your computer? Does anything come up? Or does your computer detect it?

Is there anything wrong with the USB Controller drivers on your computer? What you can do is remove the USB controller drivers from "Device Manager" from WinXP and reboot your machine. It will pick up all the USB drivers again and make sure you have your WinXP disc handy in case it askes for the CD to reload the drivers. Remember though that if you have a USB mouse or keyboard, removing the USB Controller from Device Manager will stop those devices from working until you reboot your computer, so make sure you use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse.

Try that and see what happens.

Thanks,
Binh

Hi all, just bought a 4gb player from Hong Kong via ebay and have had the problem like a few other people of files being corrupted and unable to delete which leads me to think it's a fake. However, no matter what usb port I plug the player into my laptop running XP doesn't recognise it anymore, it beeps and displays the removable disk under 'my computer' but no window opens up to display the files on there. When clicking on the removable disk, it just says not formatted do you want to? and then says windows was unable to complete the format. I noticed you mentioned above that you should try removing the usb drivers from device manager, but not knowing my way aroung a computer that well, could you let me know where exactly I could find this, please. Hopefully this will help correct the problem so that I can then format my player and find out exactly how much memory is on it and then be able to transfer the right amount of files before it corrupts.thanks in advance!

bouchie, The hacked chips can be a pain to format. You could try the HP format tool HERE or the MP3 Player Disk Utility.

To find the device manager right click on My Computer and select properties and you will find a button for the Device Manager on the Hardware tab.
