Default [solved] Installing the Conversion Tools

I have tried all the tools on this site. I have the same problem. After extracting all the files I navigate to the setup.exe file. Click on that and I freeze the directory window. Nothing happens.

I run XP, i have DirectX 9.0 installed, and Media Player 9.0.

I have all Microsoft Updates, and PCRescue in case something else on the computer was causing the problem.

I still have the same conversion problem.

Any ideas?

I am getting desperate here. How can I get this tool to even install -- let alone anything complicated like using it.

Has anyone installed this tool on a computer running XP? Is it the wrong operating system for the setup.exe?

OR do I need to put my tongue in the left cheek while patting my head to make it work. (No tried that and it doesn't work.)

Surely someone knows something to get me past setup.exe?

Hi steffan,

(OZ did very well at the Commonwealth!)

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I had to have a think about how to solve your problem.

I remember awhile ago I had the same problem installing it. I can't quite remember how I fixed it, but I was sure I just tried running the setup.exe again.....????

To answer your question, yes, the install works with WinXP. Question: What version of the AMV Convert tool are you trying? Have you tried both versions just in case?

Also, can you try the following:

1. Delete all your TEMP files. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<<your_logon_username>>\Local Settings\Temp and remove all the files in there.

Try running setup.exe again and see if it works. If not:

2. Try redownloading it from our website again, save it to a DIFFERENT location, maybe just the root of C:\drive and extract it into a folder in the root of C:\drive. Try running the setup.exe from there and see what happens......

If that doesn't work:

3. With Windows XP, you can create another user account. Try that and give it full admin rights. Try installing it with the newly created admin account and see what happens? It might be a profiles problem.

Hope this helps.
I would try step 1 firstly. The other steps are abit over the top, but we are getting desperate if it doesn't work.

Let me know what happens.

Binh

Thank you for your help. This problem was a persistent devil. I tried all three of your suggestions and it was not until the last suggestion was tried that it worked.

So, I created a new User with all rights to do anything on the computer and installtion was a breeze for both tools. I installed the tools for use by anyone on the computer.

I then switched to my normal user and am using the AMV Converter to my hearts content.

Oh, and by the way, it helps to put tongue in right cheek while doing the steps above. If for no other reason than that is where I had my tongue the whole process through. I cannot vouch for it working on your computer if tongue is anywhere else

If anyone else is having this problem, as I know there are approximately 250 of you out there who have bought players from me and am constantly asking me how to solve this problem, please follow the above trouble shooting steps. Possibly the only one that really matters is setting up another user and it should install fine.

Sincerely
steffan
