Rillee,

Yes. Firmware is part of the hardware board, not software enviroment, just like your bios in your computer. You may format as many times as you get the dreaded 'format error'. The HP tool rillee works ! Use only fat16

Pplease post your results w/ it...

Rillee,

Sorry to hear that.
Unfortunately, there are many nasty sellers out there who will modify a 96mb or 128mb memory chip so that it shows as 512mb or 1 gb etc. in windows.
Try this:

Hard reset : Switch off player w/ switch for 1 minute, then back on.

Check memory by going to system/memory on unit.
Then check w/ xp : right click on drive xx/properties/..... post results.
What did you reformat with?
did you try this ? :

http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:...s&ct=clnk&cd=2

What size player was it ....512mb? 1 gb?
If nothing works, you should return to seller.

Please say what steps you take and what worked...
I.

Rillee

How much did you buy it for?

Reason why I ask is I'm surprised to see a 4GB mpx player. I haven't seen one that has 4GB. I know this because all the manufacturers I have contact with in China only produce to 1GB players.

Please check "memory info" in "system utilities" menu of player.

You are not the 1st to have this problem.

I suggest that you return it to the seller for a refund. 4gb chips are not available yet. Max is 2 gb, unless it's a HDD player.

You may learn something here:

Good luck !

Rilee,
Read this :

http://www.mympxplayer.com/viewtopic.php?t=262

I think the only option, if you cannot return it to the seller, is to re-flash it w/ original firmware, which you may find on the CD that came w/ it. Look for a file w/ .bin extension on CD, then download the tools available on this site, and most importantly read all directions on this site. Please ask Admin for help.

Good luck, and back up FW first.

Rillee

How much did you buy the 4GB player for? It seems a LOT to be honest. All the Chinese mp3 manufacturers I have contact with have never released a 4GB model of their players - too expensive.
