lyrics not being displayed

I just got an mp4 player..the ultraslim one which looks like an ipod..has an M button for menu
How do I get it to display lyrics?

I copied a .lrc file with the same file name as the mp3 in the same directory.
When I click and hold on the Menu button, the player stops playing and returns to the main menu. (This is the only way i know of to get to the main menu from any submenu (while playing a video, watching pictures, etc.) Doesnt show lyrics or a "T" as someone mentioned in another post.

I've gone through the forum but couldnt find anything.

Help!

mesquita,

Some questions for you:

1. Where did you get the .lrc file from?

2. If you made it yourself, it could be the what it's done or the way it's saved.

3. Try converting your mp3 song to 128Kbs instead then try playing it. I know I've had a problem with another player in the past where if the bit rate is not 128, it won't display the "T" and won't show the lyrics.

4. Try downloading our sample mp3 with lyrics - Matchbox Twenty - Unwell (with lyrics) from here. Put it on your player and see if it displays the lyrics. This definately works on a number of my players, so should work for yours as well.

Post me the results and let me know if what happens.

In answer to your questions,

1. The lrc files were downloaded to my computer by the minilyrics winamp plugin while i played the songs earlier. I have a huge collection of lrc files and just picked a few among them to test it out.

2. I didnt make them myself, but I tried opening one in notepad and using "Save as" with different encoding opitons (Unicode, ANSI, etc) and trying each one in turn. Didnt help.

I tried making my own lyrics file using LRC Editor as someone suggested in another post. Didnt work either.

I noticed the lrc file of Unwell didnt have millisecond tags. I tried removing the millisecond tags from my lrc file and converting it from [MM:SS:MM] to [MM:SS] format. Didnt help.

3. The song I'm playing is at a 128 kbps bit rate.

4. The lyrics of Unwell displayed correctly. How was that lrc file made?

I can't quite remember how I made the .lrc file to be honest, it was awhile ago.

What you can try is, RENAME the .lrc file for the Matchbox Twenty song and name it the same as one of your MP3 files. Then play that file and see if the lyrics show up. That we, we can determine whether the problem is with the mp3 file or the .lrc file........

Let me know of the result.

Re: lyrics not being displayed

Good idea. The lyrics did not show up, indicating its probably something in the mp3.
Here's the info winamp shows for my mp3..:
Size: 2622809 bytes
Header found at: 405 bytes
Length: 164 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
128kbit, 6289 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes
Emphasis: None

..and this was the info on the Unwell mp3:

Size: 3661824 bytes
Header found at: 1628 bytes
Length: 229 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
128kbit, 8778 frames
44100Hz Stereo
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: Yes
Original: Yes
Emphasis: None

quick comparison shows Joint Stereo and Copyrighted attributes as varying.
I found mp3s which used normal stereo and not "joint stereo" encoding...renamed unwell's lrc again and retried..didnt work

Tried again with another mp3 which had Yes for Copyrighted, but was Joint Stereo..didnt work..

I didnt have any mp3s which exactly matched all the properties of the Unwell mp3. So couldnt conduct the only remaining test..head-to-head

damn feature just refuses to work!
thanks for sticking thru with this..

Re: lyrics not being displayed

I'll see if I can upload some more sample .mp3 with .lrc to match and let you try that on your player.

Good on you for trying to find out what the problem is.
I will also try to find a pattern as well.

But just to confirm, you've definately named the unwell.lrc file to the EXACT name as the .mp3 file during your testing right? The easiest way to do is to select the .mp3 file then press [F2] to rename it, but don't, I just copy the text and than rename the .lrc file match it. Is that what you did?

Well, I think I'm going to quit. Since no one else has written in, it might be a peculiarity of this particular firmware on my player. If anyone finds out where the problem lies, do tell us.

Thanks for assisting, admin.

mesquita

I will try to do some more testing and let u know. If you have time, try to test it from your end as well. i would be interested to know what you find.

Also, if u can post a photo of your player, that would be great. You might be right, it might just be the firmware of your player and the firmware might be recent that it has certain requirements???

If you get the "L" button lit up then press and hold down on the [M] or [Mode] button for about 2-3 seconds. Lyrics should come on then.

HELP! I accidently deleted the .lrc file that came w/ my mpx player. I was transferring and organizing my mp3 files. At the time, didn't know what a .lrc file was all about. Wondering how to get it back.

Does every song have a corresponding .lrc file or is this just a small program that came with my player.

Appreciate any help you could provide. It took awhile, but am getting the hang of the navigational buttons...thanks.

bsaylors 29th Jun 2006 8:26 pm

Hi Shirley - its not a program at all so dont worry about recovering it. Every song has its own corresponding lrc file which you can get off the internet or create yourself so you have not deleted an important component of the mp4 player :)
