How do you upgrade using a rar file? all the downloads for firmware are rar files!

you need to un-rar them to put them in your player, they are like zipped up files, it saves disk space and download time. I suggest winace.com for un-raring, then use the mp3 upgrade tool provided with the "driver disk" that came with the player

Winrar is really good too. I use that.

i need to download that lol, I haven't got any un-raring programs, is it freeware?

Unfort, WinRar isn't freeware.

However, 7zip is FREEWARE.
It will unrar a .rar file but won't convert it to .rar though.

You can download 7zip from [Downloads] -> [Tools] -> 7-Zip ver. 4.31.

If it helps, there's also another program called filzip to deal with those rar (zip, cab and many other compressed formats). It's freeware and is very complete in functions and formats support - even more than that famous winzip. Has some flaws, but have worked great for me.
