Firmware Heaven
A great collection of firmware and manuals for more than 20 players.
Scroll through the Products page and find your player and note the model number then go to the Tech Support and download the firmware for that model. question to you or anyone else who can help- Just got my new MP4 player, looks 100% identical to the MPV435 and MPV430 (what is the difference between these?).but no FM radio screens. My screens and menu's are different. How can I know if my h/w supports Radio? Can I load the le-mon s/w to my player? My player shows in the s/w section: MP3 PLAYER SC85051A 2006/03/13 ACT_V3.5.35 Thanks for your help, Shimon |

If your player supports radio there will be a menu heading for it in the main menu where you scroll through Music, Movies, Pictures etc. I it is not there I would suggest that you do not have support for it. Changing the software or firmware is a very risky thing as you can end up with a player that no longer functions. I put the link to the site for those that have killed their players with bad firmware upgrades and are looking for firmware to repair their players perhaps one on the site may be the one they need. There is really no technical support for these players other than community sites such as this where people answer questions based on their experiences. Hope this helps Shimon. |

Many thanks. Something else- I found some sites where I can get f/w modification tools. This is nice for creating my own opening picture etc. I can first upload my f/w, modify, and download again, thus no risk of using the wrong f/w. Do you have any opinion on this? Or just, don't hassle with the player as long as it is working? Appreciate your knowledge and help. |
5:30 am on a cold night.
When you download your players firmware to a dump.bin file it does not contain all the files needed for you player to work a few are not extracted. So if the files not extracted are replaced with copies that are not compatible with your player then your extracted firmware is not going to fix this. Some players come with a full copy of firmware on the CD but not many. Also a really bad firmware upgrade can leave your player in a state where Windows will not recognise the device and so you can not re-flash it. the only way you can be completely sure is to open your player and check serial and component numbers and then find the firmware specific to your player, not an easy task I'm afraid. I think I shall retire for the night. Nice to meet you Shimon. |
Thanks, good night. Get some well deserved rest.

Do you have any opinion on this? Or just, don't hassle with the player as long as it is working? seems legit to me, I do it all the time. Just make a backup first so you don't screw your player as Tadad explains. modifying the firmware is only good for changing font and graphics, I would not try changing anything else unless it is suggested and tested in the forum wow I am a poet and I don't know it :) ...well I do now.... |
Well said fizzle05 and very poetic, I doubt if you can get into much trouble modifying your own firmware dump for the purpose of themeing your player. The first thing I did was modify mine which originally looked like an advertisment for Lotus Blossum Festival.
I think most people who run into difficulty are flashing there players just because they can or they want 3 mind numbing games instead of one and have little or no understanding of compatibility issues or player specs. Bottom line is these are not mini computers that you can add and remove software from. That said I think my Nano clone has got more processing and storage power than the first laptop I bought. :) |
Re: Firmware Heaven
exactly. I was disappointed when I first got mine I thought that I didnt want to show my friends this player that shows animated flowers when you turn it on but I discovered this site and have completely revamped it to my liking.
I can't believe people want to put extra things on this player, it seems to do enough already, and it does it well, albeit a bit slow. I 2nd that as well my 386 laptop couldnt even handle notepad  100MB hard drive. I expect the next thing people will be wanting is to be able to put ipodlinux on these things, just to play doom and gameboy games... |
Fizzle and Tadad, thanks for your advise.
I'll take the chance, since my feelings with the flowers and "bye-bye" are exactly like yours... So all I need to do is: 1. Upload the f/w from the player to my PC (using s1fwx) 2. 'repair' the uploaded file (using S1res) 3. Change bitmaps and text per the description in the Knowledge Base section of this excellent site. (I repeat this, as I'm a bit nervous after all these people who ended up with dead devices....) questions- In the code I downloaded I see a line: radio/fm support = no what will happen if I change it to 'yes', but the h/w doesn't have the Philips chip? Will the unit die? I don't want to open it and look for the chip. I ask this, as the manual I got includes a description of the radio function (in very poor English, btw). I also saw a few Players, looking 100% the same as my unit, but with the Radio operational. My f/w starts with: $g connect to device 'G:\'... init device... set device to f-mode... get info from device... ic version = 0x0001 storage info = 0x0202, 0x0000, 0x0000, 0x0000 device = 'S1 Mp3 Player' manufacturer = 'Wilson Co. Ltd.' bootflash type = 'F644' brom version = 3.0.00 firmware version = 3.5.35 read boot record... detect firmware size.... firmware size = 0x005C0400 read flash............................................. ......................... Anyone who came along with this? Thanks in advance for all your usefull inputs. Shimon |
